Almost done - the board in place... Sorted out the FE, went with a simple Mala one in the end Only minor nuisance seems to be the coin mech, sometimes it won't take coins at all. One day it's fine the next it's not - the little LED turns red and it spits back out any coins you put in OH:
you could always just install a coin button. When playing on my friends cabs he has one with a coin button and the other without. Honestly I don't find dropping a coin in any cooler. Just more annoying when it doesn't work right
The JVS-PAC allows you to press a 2-button combination (start + p1 b5 on mine) I like putting coins in though!
I have a spare coin mechanism - I would gladly swap it if you require. I never used that mechanism, but it came from a shop and I watched people use it day in day out whilst negotiating the purchase. That was over a year ago so something could have happened to it in the mean time. Let me know. P.S. You MUST come over here and get my unit running this stuff! It looks fan-bloody-tastic!
That's a very kind offer Parris, thank you I'm up for that, you can gimme a shot of yer Point Blank while I'm there!
That sounds like a good exchange ;-) I might even have the Sega Hang On fixed.... but I seriously doubt it! I'll have taken delivery of Psyvariar 2 (spelling) at some point this week and that is worth having a shot of, given your passion for schmups!
I guess the coin mech is set up for UK coins, then? Ohhhh, wait! It was a Scottish machine? It's probably being fussy about accepting English money, then!
You laugh, but in Northampton over the weekend I had a hell of a trouble getting anywhere to accept my Scottish £20 notes. Apparently it's not the shopkeepers so much as the banks simply refusing them these days. (Name and shame... NATWEST) I have NO idea what the UK is coming to, but surely if a note has 'Sterling' written on it, it's acceptable throughout the whole of the UK. In the end 1 of the places refusing a 'Bank of Scotland' note accepted a 'Clydesdale Bank' note (also Scottish however!) and another store asked me to use my card, then charged me 75p extra for having done so... The girl in McDonalds' (I bought a cup of coffee on my meander home) was the third person to ask and her boss kind of looked at her as if she was insane! YES WE ACCEPT ANY MONEY DURING A RECESSION! I've not been asked about my Scottish money since I was a kid!
It's ALWAYS been accepted though and with 'Sterling' written on it, then it is genuine and acceptable throughout the whole of the UK. When was the last time you ever had a Scottish note that wasn't accepted?
 Well, their status is weird. There was a law like 200 years ago that prohibited banks from printing their own pound notes. Scotland appealed, and won. The Scottish pound note was legal tender, but of course that was withdrawn a while back, so you're left with higher denomination notes that aren't legal tender technically even in Scotland, because the law was never changed!! Conversely, I don't think Bank of England notes are legal tender in Scotland! So basically, you have NO legal tender! I've seen several Scottish bank notes down here and we did accept them in my shop. It is very hard, though from our point of view. It is basically left to the discretion of the parties involved as to whether this will be an accepted form of payment. We don't see enough Scottish notes to know whether one is real or not, so I can understand people being reluctant to take them. Do you get Scottish note readers? Ya know, the ones in vending machines, coin changers etc.
Purple felt tip pen looking things with really badly drawn faces and things on them... that's all you need to know lol Not once have I ever refused an English note, but you've given me a good reason too from now on ;-) Seriously, so long as it looks authentic and scans properly, we'll accept 'em! Yeah, we have readers. All of the stations for example have readers so you can use notes to pay for tickets.
Yes they do! An English note is just like any other to us up here! Just found this on a website.... "The Scottish currency banknotes differ in design from English ones, but are of the same value and are accepted everywhere in the UK. English notes are accepted in Scotland. I have to admit though that if you are going from Scotland to England and call in at some very small shop, the shopkeeper might look at your Scottish money a bit strange!" Yeah, add to that Northampton!
It's not just English/Scottish coins it's any coins. It'll either take everything or nothing, sometimes if I wait a few hours it'll take any coin. Beginning to think it might be the credit board or that I have something connected wrongly, there is a red LED flashing on it. I haven't been able to find much documentation on it so far, it's the Excel one that appears to be one of the 2 standard fit The coin mech looks in pretty good shape, I cleaned some dirt out of the little sensor holes on the bottom but other than that the PCB etc look almost brand new
