The English/Scottish thing was a joke ;-) That said, you'll have either a Japanese acceptor or a UK acceptor.

I can't find the Excel DIP switch settings or pinouts, although I should have them somewhere. You should be able to get them off the manufacturer, though:

I don't have any spare credit boards, nor do I have Excel to let you know what they do as the other 2 I have are a different make.

Ordyne sells credit boards for £10 approx. if I remember rightly. Unless eBay throws something cheaper your way.

I do have the wiring image for the board somewhere. Let me check and get back later.

I'd say I was a bit of an audiophile, so the stock speakers on the cab aren't cutting it, time to whip 'em out...

And drop in a couple of these babies instead...

I recommend using the L/R RCA outs on the Naomi motherboard. Lead a decent audio cable to an external amp, like a cheap Yamaha Natural sound amp and 2 x wall mounted speakers behind the cab.

    Good speakers though!

Did you resolve the credit board / coin mech issue?

No, not so far, although I am making progress. I'm back to thinking it's the mech. I believe the red flashing light is the credit board polling the mech. And I've managed to find the user manual for the mech itself, it's fairly complicated  There's a diagnostic LED on the mech, but haven't delved into that yet.

I've got a set of £900 Mission floorstanders and my Arcam seperates right next to the Naomi, but I can't really fire those up in the middle of the night :110:

    Oh yes you can! :noooo:

Offer of replacement coin mech still stands. Come after 2nd April and you might (if I can build it) get a shot on Manx TT ;-)

    Woot! sounds pretty sweet.

Thanks for that, I'll try everything else first, I wouldn't wanna take the mech of you if it's something straightforward to fix, but it might come to that...

I picked up a marquee holder too...

Wait... did you just use the word audiophile in the same paragraph as a picture of a pair of Sony car door speakers? :noooo: Would that be audiophile as in "yeah bruv, I iz got meself a bangin Sony 'edd unit wiv a wikked Pioneer sub an' me boot is filled up wiv subs innit"?

Yes, yes you can! Use your PROPER audio system - just plug it into your amp and away you go! The amp has a volume control, you know ;-)

But depending on how much he paid, there is probably not a headphone socket lol.

I was going to offer up a similar 'sub woofer and finned amp' comment but thought better of it. You have to admit though, those Sony speakers are a damned sight better than the originals put there by Sega!

    ;-)

    They sound much better too

My Arcam amp/power amp do have headphone sockets but they don't switch the speakers off, like most audiophile amps.

I wouldn't say my wife was a light sleeper but there's being a heavy sleeper, and then there's sleeping through an earthquake, lol

It's a bit aged now though, I've had the gear for about 13/14 years.

The speakers are much newer, I regret spending as much, as they see very little use nowadays:crying:

They replaced a pair of B&W shelf speakers, which woulda been ideal for this. But that said the car door speakers are doing the trick, and not turning my monitor purple either

    Without doubt, yes.

There is very little in the way of treble or bass from the stock speakers, both of which are a good bit better defined.

I spent some time playing with the software equalizer on NVmixer to get the best out of them.

I haven't tried them on the Naomi board yet, but I will tonight and let you know how it goes.

If possible try before you buy, a lot of stuff I saw had the same spec on paper, but in reality were miles apart when you heard them

The mounts are the standard 10cm 'car door' fitting, and there's a lot of room depth-wise that I'd say any 10cm cone will fit no problem - the spade terminals are the same standard as well, you cant go wrong even there.

    Also:
I mounted them with 'anti-vibration' washers from Maplin, which are nothing more sophisticated than little silicone discs about 1-2mm thick. How much difference that make is debateable, but it cant hurt.

Strictly speaking magnetically shielded cones should be used near a CRT, but the standard Sega fit speakers aren't shielded either, I haven't seen any discoloration so far. The Sega ones would cause purple patches every so often (maybe once a week), but a blast of the degauss button would take them away right away.

The standard fit were 100w peak, 4Ohm impendance on my cab, the Sony car speakers I've put on were 110w 4Ohm

Already too late at night to properly test the speakers on the Naomi board, but even at low volume the high range is much cleaner on the new speakers. It's not like the stock speakers had much in the way of a tweeter.

I'll post a a bit more tomorrow lunchtime

Fired up the Naomi again this morning, definitely a much sweeter sound coming from the new speakers.

I think a little more bass and a little less mid would be nice, the treble is good.

The speakers were £30 and a pretty decent upgrade for the money.

    Also the coin mech:

I seemed to have worked it out, so far so good anyway.
The mech was flashing red twice when a coin was inserted, which according to the manual means: 'Coin outside programmed sensor windows'

So I followed the procedure to 'increase the security windows' in the manual and all seems fine now, although it sometimes still registers 2 credits rather than 1, but better 2 than none, lol

So it looks like I wont need that Mech off you Parris, although if the offer still stands I'll come round in April for a shot of your shiny new Manx TT Twin anyway!

Excellent! It's probably been doing that since I bought it then as most of the time it was on FREE PLAY and each time I used it with coins (a handful of times) I did get a variation in the number of credits being applied. I never had a coin refused. So, other than thinking it was a flaw I thought it was a setting in the credit part of the games title! Ah ha!

See it's worth discussing these things!

    As for April. Of course!
