How comes there is no discussion about this title on Assemblergames ? Not rare & obscure enough (yet) ? "Namco System ES3" - PC based, using Windows 7 Embedded...what the @_@ Did the cabinet made it out of japan yet ? Does anyone have anymore technical informations ? What kind of Mainboard ? What kind of Sound / Graphics Adpater ? BIOS ? etc. Does the game come on CF, DVD or HDD ? How come we havent seen a leaked DVD / HDD image yet ?
Generally you won't see leaks of Arcade games which are still in exploitation, for the simple reason, they cost a fortune.
I was just "amazed" by the word Windows. I was aware of Montavista Linux in the arcade system Lindbergh. So, how many arcade games do actually run on Windows then ? Is there a list maybe ? I just stumbled across some NFS arcade running XP while googling. I fully understand people NOT releasing such dumps early. Just asking, as Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 (release 2007) got thrown to the internet around 2009. It was EEPROM though, but still cost a fortune. But I am interested in the actual hardware parts of the ES3. Google isnt much help here.
Taito TX (Type X) series of arcade boards (they're slightly old so they use Windows XP embedded) are just like that. Many popular games run on that platform including all arcade versions of Capcom's Street Fighter 4.
It's weird (but interesting) to see a game based on a Nintendo franchise running on PC-based hardware. I don't know of any other instance of that happening in Nintendo's history.
I agree. It just feels...wrong. I really want to play this. Anything Nintendo related when it comes to arcades interests me. Anybody give it a shot and and enjoy it?
I saw one at Porto Alegre - RS, but I didn't have a chance to play it (they were still installing it on a huge arcade in a shopping mall).
Surprise! Licensing Windows and using (mostly) off the shelf PC hardware is a lot cheaper in terms of a R&D budget than creating your own custom boards. This has been the way it is for a while now. Not surprised at all that it looks like it'll continue. Earlier it was announced that Sega's Nu hardware was going to use Windows 8 embedded: http://arcadeheroes.com/2013/09/02/...ure-tone-feature-new-sega-arcade-hardware-nu/ Good news is that the modifications needed to get these games running on hardware you can buy from Amazon or Newegg is likely to be less than having to write MAME drivers and waiting for PC hardware to get fast enough to fully emulate a system at 60fps. Silent Hill's arcade game was modified not too long ago to run on a standard Windows install rather well.
I know it does not add much to the discussion , but last i played this game was in Akihabara at the Sega Arcade , and took this video
I barely see anybody play the Mario Kart arcade games here in Tokyo. They are also way too expensive to play. I don't remember the exact price right now, but I believe it was like 300 yen for 5 minutes of playtime? Felt like a huge ripoff when I played it. In comparison, other recent or even newer games in the same arcade give you up to 10 to 15 minutes for just 100 yen. And I'm not a Mario Kart hater or anything. Mario Kart is actually one of my favorite games on Nintendo consoles and handhelds.
Didn't think much of the earlier Mario Kart GP games. They felt shallow. F-Zero AX on the other hand..
Don't sneak up on me like that! Yeah, that's very true. It's smart from a business standpoint. That looks really fun, but as others have said the value doesn't seem to be there. I need to make a trip to Dave & Busters and give it a shot, though.
lol, it's seems they're going to the whole microtransaction route like how smartphone games are doing at the moment
Unfortunately Mario Kart is not the only game in the arcades that doesn't let players progress without charging an extra credit. Hummer, Sega Race TV, Initial D etc comes to mind.
Woooahhhh... :O When I visited Euro Disneyland around 1992 for the 1st time, we had Arcade Games in the hall. All of them required to insertt more money after some time passed. A countdown showed up out of nowhere. I was like...wtf...I mean...what the actual f*ck...and that was 1992. I will never forget that moment...
Since when do arcade games get "updates" ? http://nintendoeverything.com/tag/mario-kart-arcade-gp-dx/ Time to explore he official DX site : http://mariokart-acgpdx.bngames.net/
