Oh quite probably. I recall various magazines back in the day with screen shots of games we knew then to not only be ports but now know that work on them had barely started (such as System Shock 2). Most of them were likely put there to catch a reader's eyes but I felt deceived then and I feel deceived now. Max Payne on the Dreamcast would be interesting but I've finished it to completion on the XBox and can't say the experience would be any better on the DC itself. Different maybe, but the lower ram count can't possibly make for better looking textures than any available version out there.
I played a bit of Max Payne on the PS2 and it was a pretty bare port. The game was basically intended for keyboard/mouse and it showed.
the ps2 version was considered the worst port, the xbox received almost the same reception from pc version. i played a bit on ps2 too, longer load times, possibly worse graphics and some levels have 2 loadings.
I played through the XBox version back in 04. Didn't use bullet time once until the last few stages where the game threw a curve ball in terms of difficulty. The controls were that good IMO, not as precise as a PC at all but whatever they used in terms of an auto aim was pretty good without being intrusive like Halo was. Be interesting to pull my Smartfrag Joy out and give it a go.
He did post a link to the page. Just click on the text that says "Max Payne Dreamcast (out of stock) e-bay page." yakumo
It happens quite a lot: google for some unreleased Xbox games for instance, there are a few dealers that allegedly had these in stock (which is impossible). Just some pre-release shop madness which was never cleaned up.
Found these with a little help from Google. These are all homemade. Here are the sources http://pastebin.com/yydHBhWF
Yeah Mr Photoshop genius you obviously didn't need to read that. I wrote that for the people who'd be freaking out and start asking "if they were real? Are those actual real scans? If so then the source must have a playable disc? Please release it, i really want to play it naaaaaooooooow!" Your comment was a fully unnecessary waste of your own time and effort. No offence :encouragement:
Well, the one in the middle is actually good enough to be real. The first one - no comment, lol. Love the half-assed transition that affects the ESRB rating
I have a friend that is a dev at Rockstar and this game was in development at about 40% or so as was GTA3 but that was only about a 20% build according to him. I would share the video he sent me but it clearly has his video and his face. I don't need him getting tossed over this as has anyone ever seen a Rockstar BETA in the wild?
Pretty sure the Smuggler's Run beta was released on the web by ZTX way back when, it's not just in collectors hands. There are quotes in this thread from people who have also contacted the developers who maintain no code was ever written for the DC version of Max Payne. Tough to know what to believe now, any chance you could post a screen shot from this video?
I owned the actual disk for a Smugglers Run beta (that I dont think was released by anyone), that is as close to public as possible.
