May 21st is the day Microsoft puts up or shuts up

I logged on to my XBOX to be informed of this. NOW I Don't care anymore, Microsoft has nothing left to offer me, but there are halo and gears and forza fans on here that might be excited for a next gen Xbox. So May 21st on Spike TV or through XBOX live.

Meenwhile, I'll be waiting to see if PS4 preorders have opened up.

 

Good way to start a fanboyism war, but then again its bound to happen. I cringe when people talk about PS4 like its all that great.

From what I have heard, Durango will run windows RT, which is fucking excellent. They way I see it if they open up the console to indie games and apps, probably give us a limited filesystem, the xbox will be THE only thing I would ever need in my living room. Emulators, webrowsing, netflix, etc, media player.

anyway, i still got my e-fingers crossed for a SEGA hardware comeback.

but im still all "Meh" about this upcoming round of consoles. i didnt get a ps3 but may get a ps4 down the line somewhere. depending on various variable factors DRM being a huge one.

although before i judge, i'll wait to see the goods produced by both shoney and microshaft with some hope for valves entry and possible more powerful open source consoles to come.

not to mention forthcoming PC hardware

Im sure sony will do it right this time round, All xbox had was halo and gears, (maybe forza) , Halo died after ODST imo, Halo 4 is the biggest pile of shit in gaming history, 343 even said it was a bad game, So there goes the halo series, As for gears, I loved 1 and 2, 3 was meh, judgement i haven't played so i cant judge, Forza is nothing special either really, Only thing its got on GT5 is sounds effects thats it.

 

The #1 reason I'm moving away from Microsoft hardware is games. The trend is that no matter what is on XBOX, it eventually unless Microsoft owns the IP, will end up on Playstation hardware seldom Nintendo.

So I'm hedging my bets next gen on a Combo of the Wii U and PS4 and MAYBE Ouya/Gamestick/Andriod something or other.

I bought an XBOX in 2001 hoping it would be a continuation of Sega Hardware and in some ways it was, But the PS2 got Virtua Fighter 4.

I got a 360 a year after launch and YES I am happy with it even through 3 Consoles. But the last straw was no US Releases for Under Defeat, Arcana Heart 3 and No More Heros, while all 3 went to the PS3. and now the next BlazBlue might not even hit the 360, Yeah, I'm done.

Man, reading some or the comments in this thread just shows that some people haven't got a clue what they are talking about.

 

Halo, Gears, Forza? Sure, they will happen. But think of all the new stuff that we'll see? I think developers know that banking off of the stuff that made the 7th gen profitable (even CoD) are only going to do so much. If the PS4 stuff is any indication (I, myself, saw some promising titles?), I think we will find new things are coming to the next consoles.

Think of all the unexpected titles from last gen. It will happen again. Cool stuff will come out, this isn't the end of the line.

 

What I failed to lol at was anyone banking on the Wii U, at the moment it's fucked with it barely selling better than the Vita which, honestly, has one foot in the grave already. Barring a massive price drop I don't see any future for the Wii U.

Sega hasn't been doing all too well lately and just closed another studio; what makes you think they are looking to get back in the console market?

As much as we Sega fans would all rejoice, it seems highly unlikely that we'll see another console from Sega any time soon.

 

I'm just gunna dip in here and say that (since it's been mentioned), I'm cautiously optimistic about the Ouya, being someone who has recently become interested in game development.

Though I would have loved to get one of the special dev units that went out through their Kickstarter.

 

Maybe a visit to isouyashipping.com would temper your optimism...

As well as the pure crap that's been flooding the so-called Ouya store. Besides, why not just develop on PC?

 

I would wait and see if the ouya 2 is less of a disaster than the first, then be optimistic

 

As if there's ever gonna be another Ouya... (hopefully not) At least the Gamestick already looks functional and 1. it lacks Ouya's BS marketing about a gaming revolution or whatever 2. they actually made a prototype when the Kickstarter was still ongoing instead of months after it finished 3. they were actually honest about a production delay instead of lying and spinning with laughable MS Paint charts about how their production supposedly isn't a fucking clown factory.

 

I'm no ouya fan but that gamestick got it easier because it was a repackaged chinese android stick, and a shitty one too since it uses one of those no-name amlogic socs.

At least ouya had a tegra3.

 

Sony looks like they really want me back after they pissed me away with the PS3. I've been a PS fan way longer than Xbox. The PS2 is my childhood. Even though I am highly swayed to get another Sony console, I still want to see what Microsoft pulls out since they won me over with the 360. The only inevitable thing I know i'm going to despise about the PS4 is the HDCP. If Sony wants to go all social media with the PS4, they need to do away with it. At least have the games bypass HDCP for crying out loud.

 

So why are we calling a system that is less than a year old dead now?

If this thread teaches outsiders anything it's that Gamers over a certian Age, have grumpy old man syndrome. Not sure if that fits me as I am just genuinely sick of Microsoft not having any shit pants exclusives 3rd party or otherwise.

 

I'm still holding on to Nintendo, hoping to see the magic again. They get it right with some games, others turn out to be disappointments. More often than not I play their older games
Second in line is Sony but they piss me off too, especially with their removal of otherOS and releasing classic PSX games that run like shit (Spyro). Not only there's slowdown, the music is all over the place too. When I called their support they said there was nothing they could do... How about putting a fucking disclaimer that says this shit is not the same as original.
Microsoft I don't care too much about, there's no point in owning both PS3 and Xbox360 and the few exclusives I would want to play at some point I can at a friend's house.

So I do own a WiiU (which I have bought on launch because I have never done so) and haven't been using it after I finished The New Easy Mario Bros WiiU, but that's only because I have about 10 games already in line to play on other systems. PS4 I will most likely not preorder but will buy later in the future provided some of the rumors surrounding it are not true, like the blocking of second hand games, etc
