I m afraid for my life if McCain comes out victorious :( the man is certainly not fir for such a public position in my view, and I reckon international leaders are skeptical about his possible election as well.

I can't say I sympathize a lot with any of the candidates (Obama behaves a bit too much like a popstar for a serious politician I think), but I also consider McCain to be much worse if it comes down to him in the end. And I think the US needs a change after those 8 years of growing bad image due to an warfaring Chuck Norris on top.

That's all? He forgot where Spain is? That's all? Everyone sometimes forgets something. He is a President candidate, ok, but also they forget things. Better watch what they do, after they recognize their mistakes -that's what counts.
I nearly know nothing about both candidates when they were Senators, but I remember McCain's letters and activity when it comes to Eastern-Europe, especially a letter he has sent to Belarussian dictator Lukashenko. I was very impressed. And his acting while asking questions during the public trials.
Obama acts in his speeches as a person who wants good things for everyone. No one in history has ever achieved that. They often were the worst persons, to be exactly. But as said, I don't know them. And I'm German.
Words, words, words - as Shakespeare said.
Every election the people walk into the trap and start a hype and a hate. It seems we cannot learn.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a potential leader of a country to at least know where the other countries are.

It was a little bit more than that as he was being prompted and told what was going on, who was involved and yet he still appeared clueless. It was akin to someone reading the title of this thread and the previous message from a poster and.... er.... sorry, I um..... Mexico, I have always liked the place.

LOL this reminds me of a case of evident stupidity of a Danish politician (can´t remember her name sadly) she guessed that the language of Brazil was Brazilian and everybody I know. Knows that the language of Brazil (the official language anyway) is Portuguese, in some variation of it.

For all his faults, I'm fairly sure that Bush would know the difference between Mexico and Spain.

If you want to criticize McCain then go right ahead. It's your right. But you cross the line when you add comments like the above. I think you're being impolite but I won't blame the entire nation of Spain for your behavior. Maybe that should clue you in a little as to what I'm talking about.

That's a big deal if you ask me. It's not as if Spain is some little unknown country that nobody gives a toss about. If he was asked to find somewhere like Fiji then yeah, I could understand but to forget somewhere like Spain is just demented. Remember, this is a grown man who should have been well educated.

Photoshopped. European ignorance is as bad as American ignorance, in my experience. It's all painted up by the media. The only difference is you don't get the 'We hate Europe' BS generalization in America... unless you are talking about France, perhaps.

Incidentally, I think McCain is too old for office. It would not be a good pick, but I do not believe Obama to be a good choice either.

I think what he is trying to say is that the majority of dumb shit on the net comes from the states. All of this put together plus the fact that the next possible president of the US doesn't know where his home country is probably caused his remark. I'm sure he wasn't stating that every American was dumb or at least I hope not.

    what does that mean?

Well hold up with the rhetorical hate answers to the Americans, I know a girl. Whom I have talked to numerous times over the internet. And she is no dimwit at all, who used to live in Arkansas. But anyway we were talking, and I met one of her friends, who had the coolest southern accent. And she said to the friend, if my pronunciation was a bit messed up, it was probably because of my "Denmark accent", and then I corrected her very gently, and said to her "well it is not called Denmark accent, it is called Danish accent . Just like the pastry", and we had a laugh of it. How could an average American know, that the tribe of Danes would become the resident people of Scania and Denmark in the future. And their language would be called Danish ? just like the Austrian pastry. And my accent is now known as Danish accent. Well she couldn´t because she hadn´t been studying that part of history. And she has a higher IQ than me. No wonder why she repair cars. And she knows so much about electronics, that if she was interested in computer consoles. She could mod them, so much that they would be the best in the world. But no, she is not interested in consoles. But she loves computers, which I think is just sweet.

In fairness, andoba doesn't represent his entire country as a political figure, so your point is kind of moot. Assuming he did, he hasn't yet forgotten an entire nation during an interview. Unless there are some secret andoba tapes I haven't seen yet.

I was kind of disappointed to see that picture in this thread. Regardless, ignorance is rife whichever country you're in. The issue is whether you blindly defend your country/leader irrespective of their failings.

Yakumo, it's still my opinion that the original poster is out of line with his comments. What he did was no different than me linking in a video showing a black person doing something stupid then saying that it's no wonder blacks are the most hated race in the world.

As an American living overseas we hear stuff like that almost daily and we ignore 99% of it. But sometimes someone just rubs you the wrong way with it and you have to speak up and remind him that he's being rude. That's usually when they backtrack a little and realize that yeah, they are actually talking about someone else's country and that person is sitting right in front of them. Some people actually seem to forget that and reminding them once in a while helps.

This is true. However, if you look at the approval ratings of Bush, not many Americans blindly support his presidency...
