I think your problem is new ROM sets seem to be made in .gen format including the newly released Swamp Thing proto.

The only solution for new prototypes to be played is that the conversion tool gets a upgrade to support both .gen and .smd conversions.

All the games listed on here have .bin files in GoodGen although it is valid that an .gen update to the tool is also needed for the Everdrive to play newly released prototype games as they are all in the .gen format therefore they need conversion to .bin.

Edit: Or maybe I'm talking utter rubbish but still have a point with the .gen to .bin thing.

.gen and .bit that is same things, so not need to convert from gen to bin

Swamp Thing proto works for me. Granted the rom is way over-dumped, but it works. Other proto's I've tried usually work. Even that lousy Super Mario Bros. pirate/hack works. Honestly the only things that would prevent a game from running would be special chips, non-SRAM memory chips, certain SRAM accessing, some PAL games on NTSC and region lock. Well, the only special chip game is Virtua Racing, for which I suggest getting a 32X! Seems almost all EEPROM games have some type of hack/fix to allow them to run. Both the occasional issue with SRAM and PAL have been sports games that aren't that great anyhow. And region locked games where the EverDrive auto-patch doesn't work can usually be fixed with a Game Genie Region code. Most all of those are available on the web, (IPS patches) to fix the games.

I just wanted to add my findings, and please someone tell me if I am wrong on any of these OR how I might get these working.

Out of all US roms these are the only ones that I could not get working on Everdrive-MD:

    Frank Thomas Big Hurt Baseball
    Greatest Heavyweights
    NHL 97
    NHL 98
    Rambo III
    Sports Talk Baseball
Virtua Racing (I know it will never work)

On 32x the only game I cannot get working is NFL Quarterback Club.

Any tips or is this the official "doesn't work" list as of right now?

At least some of those games originally saved using serial EEPROM, so they wont work unless they are patched to use SRAM.

You might want to read these threads:-

Yea I read those threads before. They don't mention the games on my list or how to even hack them. I hacked my own NBA Jam using a hex editor and instructions from the one thread.

I wouldn't think the hex editing is the same for these games too. ;-)

Actually, I think I just found a pdf in the first thread which details all of the EEPROM games. Thanks Link.

On page 1 of this thread, I wrote how I found hacked roms on the internet, for almost all the games that didn't work on that PDF list. They were likely hacked years ago. Greatest Heavyweights, Sportstalk Baseball were among them. I was never able to find a hacked Frank Thomas Big Hurt Baseball, but I'm positive it's hackable to be able to play. My guess is you're using the Good Gen roms, if so NHL 97 and 98 need Krikzz's smd-to-bin tool applied on them to work. Rambo III has me stumped. I've tried many different roms and none of them work, all get a black screen.

Thanks again Greg2600. Yes I am using the GoodGen roms however mine must be outdated because I found a Greatest Heavyweights that wasn't in Good Gen [h4] that works. Maybe I need to get an updated GoodGen rom pack. Thanks again.

Add Fatal Fury (U) [!] to the list. Although it's probably rubbish as the Samurai Showdown port on the MD was, but this thread is for non working games so had to add it in.

The scanning on that particular game only goes 3/4 way in then hangs. Not good for a so called perfect 1 to 1 dump with an exclamation mark ha?

Fatal Fury works for me, even the one you refer to. Also, I think the purpose of this thread is not to say rom dump x doesn't work, but rather game x doesn't work.

I've had lots of problems with GoodGen [!] ROMs. Red screen, hanging at Sega logo, black screen, etc. Haven't found any game that wouldn't run with an alternative ROM yet though.

Good Gens are tested on/for emulators, not real systems. I personally don't like them, and I don't like that they rename the file names in the archive. So there's often no way of knowing where that file originated. I usually get roms from either other torrents or specific websites, which offer several variations (U,J,E) of countries or types (!,b,h) of dumps in one zip file.

I can't get Micro Machines for the SMS working on the MD Everdrive cart. I just get a flashing blue screen. I've tested on two North American Sega Genesis systems (model 1 and 2) and a CDX. Any help would be appreciated, as this is a favourite of mine!

I'm using firmware v12 and OS v23 with cart rev 2.1.
