Just a question for those who own any MM protos. I'm not looking to buy them off of anyone, but could you guys perhaps post pictures or even videos of these protos? Specifically, images and videos of gameplay? imply put, it's fun to compare the differences between content in the final and beta/proto builds of MM games, so I'd love to see anything significant. For instance, someone here posted up a "Mega Man X7 E3 Special Edition" a few years ago, which was an E3 build of X7. It'd be great if that individual could provide a few images or videos of it in action. The MM community is always looking to research beta, proto stuff, and since not too many of us can afford to buy them, this is the next best thing...well, dumps are nice, too, but people do tend to not share protos.
Personally I don't have anything except the CFC Rockman DASH demo that's been dumped a while back, but being the huge Mega Man fan I have looked into anything that's been released. My dream some day is to have the funds available to actually start buying some Mega Man prototypes to dump for the community. Some ones you may want to look into though that have been released: Mega Man 3 Prototype - It's mostly the same just a few bugs like where it doesn't revert to that standing sprite at the beginning of a boss battle, palette issue on get weapon screen, etc. Mega Man 7 Sample - Several differences in intro stage and smaller differences on other stages. Here's a bunch of codes that make things interesting to explore. Sprite Viewer C005B302 Sound Test C005B304 Can Access Any Weapon, Infinite Use(Go to the weapon menu, and press Up to select invisible weapons) C0461B00 C0466E00 C12F0EA9 Can Access Any Weapon, Infinite Use(Alternate code, go to the weapon menu, and press Up to select invisible weapons) C0422A00 C0427D00 C1244DA9 Start Game On Level ??=01-03, 05-06, or 08 C0140F?? C0141173 Protodude released the Rockman DASH demo a while back as well which has several interesting things. Don't know if you ever go to rockman perfect memories, but they actually have a topic with a lot of information/videos/magazine articles from early Mega Man things.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this have debug in it? I know theres a megaman in the NES goodset that has debug in it, and I think its that one. Its on controller 2 most likely.
I'm not certain if this prototype has any extra debug stuff left in it. I can possibly check later. I know the final build has some stuff left where if you press certain button combos on controller 2 it will freeze animation frames, enable a super jump, or prevent you from dying.
I was thinking of megaman 5. Theres a megaman 5 proto floating around. idk where, but its obtainable.
Where are all the exciting Megaman X Prototypes at? Thats what im always wondering. & by exciting I mean early builds or anything other than a few different unused sprites. I guess they just never got out?
I would love to see more prototypes of MM games. However I think what we really need are the ROCKMAN prototypes Protos of MM games would be just early translations and such correct?
Yup, here's a few: http://themechanicalmaniacs.com/images/mmmysteries/MMXmys-scrn1.gif http://themechanicalmaniacs.com/images/mmmysteries/MMXmys-scrn2.gif http://themechanicalmaniacs.com/images/mmmysteries/MMXmys-scrn3.gif http://themechanicalmaniacs.com/images/mmmysteries/MMXmys-scrn4.gif http://themechanicalmaniacs.com/images/mmmysteries/MMXmys-GPro.gif
I'm getting a 403 error with all of those links. Any way you could upload them to another site? (edit) did some looking around, this website has the "white city" images and some other interesting tidbits about various MMX betas... I'm sure all stuff Dan1's seen before, but interesting for everyone else. http://www.themechanicalmaniacs.com/articles/mmxmysteries.php
I remember that magazine preview. I really wish I knew then what I know now. I would have taken so much more care of stuff like this when I was younger.
Just play the GB games then Of all the protos to want this looks like nothing great, just a compilation of gameboy titles. Nothing we don't already have. Bring on the protos with actual unreleased content
Well, the Mega Man Mania GBA collection was supposed to have had the original Game Boy games updated to NES levels of colors. That and have some kind of art gallery. Not to mention the framerate was pretty bad in the earlier titles. I still think it would have been worth owning had it ever come out.
