you would be suprised, plus people with genesis or megadrive games they cant stand would use that carts case. I belive the genesis and snes carts sold at http://www.tototek.com dont even carry a case and i hear they sell pretty well.
I would buy a flash cart that was only compatible with Sega CD flashing with no plastic case. I have plenty of crappy Genesis games I could steal a case from. And I have plenty of CD-Rs to burn to use my Sega CD. All just depends how cheap it can be made.
"Are there also mac osx drivers in the make?" Nope... i already have some difficulties to code the win32 driver ;P However, if ucon64 have a mac version... maybe you can deal with the megacart using it... "I belive the genesis and snes carts sold at http://www.tototek.com dont even carry a case and i hear they sell pretty well." That's true. "I would buy a flash cart that was only compatible with Sega CD flashing with no plastic case. I have plenty of crappy Genesis games I could steal a case from. And I have plenty of CD-Rs to burn to use my Sega CD." I see... I would buy one too. Its a shame nobody did this back in the 90's...
Ok, i finished yesterday the computer drivers, the software is working really good, it is faster than segacd flashing (well, 50% faster)... But my 500mhz pentium didn't realize yet that my segacd flashing routine isn't optimized, haha;P (you can notice that an usb flasher might be available later ) I reveived the final PCB today, so i removed all remaining bugs from all firmwares, all is working really well... Exept a little point (i hope that it wont delay much), when the 32x is attached, the flash chip becomes instable on a bankswiching point of view... It will be fixed this night. Printings for box/cartridge/disc are done with success... very close to open the shop, seems
Is it still looking like it'll go on sale for 65$USD? Also, where would it be shipped from? And finally your page is a bit confusing, is it a 32MegaBit (4 MegaByte) cartridge or what?
Hi, It is going to be sold 65usd shipping included from HongKong. The cartridge is 4MBytes but 1MByte is used for the firmwares. So, you can basicaly flash games that are 3MBytes maximum... But to confuse you a little bit more, if you want to trash the firmware and flash a single 4MB rom on it using the computer driver, there will be an option for that ;P. I added your question in the faq http://www.genny4ever.net/megacart/megacart_v1.html#faq
splendid, I cant wait for launch date of this fine product, Btw i checked out those fvm demos you did on genesis, my god thats some amazing work, how long did it take to do the driver one?
"splendid, I cant wait for launch date of this fine product, Btw i checked out those fvm demos you did on genesis, my god thats some amazing work, how long did it take to do the driver one?" Hi, thx a lot for the comment. Haha, yeah, i worked on fmv some times ago already, it is quite crazy programming LOL Actualy, i moved my codec to segacd (scroll down to michal jackson segacd demo)... But as far as i remember, it tooks 10minutes to encode a 1minute mpeg file megadrive format Due to poor cdrom speed, i had to reduce the bitrate (weaker) compared to the genesis demos... but it has sound and unlimited time lenght
If you flash a single 4MB rom on it with no firmwire, could you flash a 32X ROM and play that? Playing 32X games would certainly be a nice feature, as again the tototek cartridge that is 32M won't let you.
Of course you can run 32x software from the megacart... Even if you flash a 32MEG game, 32x game will boot. See you tomorow
So with this cartridge every Genesis/MegaDrive and 32X game should work then? Well everything except the 40MBit Super Street Fighter 2. I like your site. I love classic homebrew development for systems like the NES, SNES, and Genesis/MegaDrive. Oh and another thing, will the option to program a single 32MB ROM only be available by PC? Or will it be available from the Sega CD as well? I for one would really prefer it be available on the Sega CD as I don't have a tototek programmer and would rather stick with the Sega CD.
Hi, mottzilla, sorry for late reply. Thx for your comments around my website Megadrive is a really great system to deal with... very well designed. In fact, for booting 32Meg games (not possible now) i don't know how you'll do... My solution will be to add a dummy at end of the 32x rom that setup the hardware environement... The 32M flashing will be only available from the computer flashing and maybe segacd flashing but i haven't implemented it yet. Its written on the page... http://www.genny4ever.net/megacart/ Few days to wait... thx all I have mine haha
Can you put the FAQ back up? While I like the picture of the finished product, the website with information was nice too.
Yeah, it will be back , no worries (along with the cart release). "Why won't you be able to play Master System games on a Genesis 3?" Megacart 1.X don't support sms roms, sorry. "What is that specimen in the jar on the picture on your website? It looks like... a finger?!" Umm? Haha, yeah, it's not a snake in alchool. Its just honey
