Which one do you guys think is better??

I don't mean the differences between the stories, I mean on a technical level.

In my opinion the PS2 game beats the gamecube game on just about every level....the textures are better and cleaner, the graphics are better and use a damn sight more polygons, the AI is far better and you(snake, Raiden) have a helluva a lot more moves.

The Gamecube game feels rushed and incomplete and the nw ideas implemented into the psx classic are redundant.I can't believe the textures either as the Gamecube is capable of so so much more. Also the AI in the ps2 game is so tight and the enemies are a lot smarter than in the GC game.I have ran through the nuke storage building in the GC game and all the soldiers done was follow me to the elevator ...pathetic.

So what do you guys think?Let's get a good discussion going about this as I think Silicon Knights made a complete arse of the gamecube game. :smt067

If i had to choose id say mgs2, but substance version since i feel mgs2 on its own is way too short. The story might have sucked for mgs 2, but the gamplay was extremely good, especially the guards attack patterns and such. The gamecube remake pretty much was lacking. The feature that were added were barely optimize. What i belive hurt the game mostly was that it was more of just a straight port with updated graphics that didnt even take full advantage of the cube. Granted it was made by silicon knights due to the fact that kojima's team was very busy with othe projects. Still I wish they would have really added to the remake instead of just porting it. The grapchics i felt should have recieved a major overhaul instead of new textures just for the sake of them being new. Gameplay should also had a bunch of new challanges and such. But I imagine the game was ment mostly to be just a port so nintendo could have mgs on their system. But I mean come on resident evil on cube started out as just overhualing the graphics, but even then they werent fully satisfied with that and added a good amount to it instead of a great port, just my two cents.

MGS2 Substance is technicall superior in my opinion....but then again, I think Konami made sure teh Gamecube one couldn't be as good as it should.

Why, you ask? Well, if Twin Snakes had really pushed the Gamecube...you know, been like a total graphical wonder.....then what would people say of teh MGS3 game engine? At least, thats the way I feel it went...I can see no other reason why the Gamecube one would look so poor.

You should include MGS3, since it is a major point in the games. Anyways, Twin Snakes was a great game in general (Since it IS a remake of the first MGS), however, the biggest problem was the lack of anything new. Yeah, they added the Tranq rounds, the lockers, more difficulty, Boss time attack, and a few misc things, but it wasn't on the level of the Resident Evil remake (Redoing a good majority, while leaving most of it the same, but changing the puzzles).

People will often whine about MGS2 having TOO much story and not enough gameplay, but I say it's bull. One of the reasons the MGS series is well liked is because of the story. Anyways. I loved the game. The raiden change, the added bits that were later ported to TTS version, first person view, and so on.

So in my opinion, MGS > MGS2 in terms of revolution, but MGS2 > MGS:TTS = MGS in terms of gameplay, etc

    I disagree.

Konami let another company (Silicon Knights) do the remake using MGS2 engine. By the way this company did that Eternal Darkness game that was ported from the N64 to the Gamecube. So, blame Silicon Knights.

The main "problem" is that they used the same textures of the PS1 version, which of course are dated... Anyway, the game is good.

While it doesn't explain everything, it explains most of it. Great bosses (Although the first two lack character development), great engine (Although people will whine about the menu's), and some of the best graphics I have EVER seen in a game.

MGS2 has to be one of the most over rated games ever. It's good, and the graphics were amazing for the time, but the story sucks incredible balls! It didn't even make any sense. And then Otocon (sp?) getting it on with his step mom? WTF?!?

I finished it cahaz and I think it's the best in the series. I don't want to spoil anything but the ending is amazing a brilliant work of art.

I'm probably one of the few people who loved MGS2, convoluted story and all. Yes, there was too much codec action, but, dammit, show as much story otherwise!
The gameplay aspect changes were revolutionary, yes, and Raiden was über-cool, as a re-interpretation of Solid Snake.

Actually, I was kind of disappointed when they announced that MGS3 would take place in the past and not expand upon the end of the MGS2 storyline... I wanted a new non-solid-snake agent, and more futuristic psychobabble.

And incest. Not only that thing about the stepmother, but also Emma. Hey, if that E.E. were MY sister...

Anyway, MGS2 is a great game overall, and I agree upon the fact that it might be quite better than MGS: TS, even if TS was absolutely beautiful as well, because it isn't a remake but an evolution of the old formula.

Ruining the Russian chick's accent was the line for me.

The story was superb, but sadly lost on many. Most, actually.

Snake Eaters story makes up for the acid trip Kojima was on when he wrote MGS2. It even manages to explain some of the Patriots back story without making you go WTF? I'd have to put it slightly below MGS's story though.

Gameplay is great. It really does capture the feeling of being in the jungle. The camouflage feature is excellent and works both ways. You can come within feet of an enemy solider and not realize it. You have to be a lot more observant. Especially since the maps are much larger and multi-tiered. The CQC is a great addition as well.

The boss battles are on par with the rest of the series but Kojima really scored a homerun with a few of them. Some will either love it or hate it but I think the battle with The End is one of the top 3 boss battles I've ever played in a game. It gives new meaning to the word patience.

All in all I'd have to say the MGS3 is the best of the series. Everything passes or exceeded my expectations.

PS When you get the game be sure to pick "I love MGS2" at the beginning.

I think in Mgs the twin snakes, the Cg scenes made Snake "super heroic" which in turn made it cheesy. The mgs2 gameplay in MGS also destroyed the difficulty of mgs. It was made for the playstation, and was pretty difficult, but with mgs2 gameplay you could clear an area out instead of being stealthy. MGS2 was the better one for stealth IMO...
Mgs3 is actually living up to the hype, and it is very good. It might get an award for something.

    Warning Spoilers...

Honestly the thing about MGS2 that pissed me off the most wasn't the story even though I still think Kojima was on a bad acid trip or something. While certain things didn't make sense or work for me such as what was left of Liquid being reduced to wiping Ocelot's ass or that whole Vamp being Scott Dolph's lover thing which seemed like an inside joke taken way too far I thought the overall story was interesting.

It wasn't even Raiden (and let's be honest. He sucked) that pissed me off the most. It did piss me off though. Especially since Kojima made it out that the game would be all about Snake. It would have gone down better if you could have played Snakes side of the story once you beat the game or (sorry to sound fanboyish) at least a cooler character than Raiden.

What pissed me off the most was Kojima flat out lied about the game until its release. When he created the trailers for shows like E3 and TGS he used scenes he knew would never be in the game. Anyone remember Snake fighting the Harrier jet on the Verrazano Bridge or Snake fighting Fortune? Or even the scenes of Snake escaping the sinking ship? I can understand when a developer takes something previously shown out of the game due to technical reasons or if it's simply a tech demo but creating scenes that you know will never be used just to fool people is wrong. That pissed me off more than anything.

    thx for the informations guys.

and personnaly, i must say that i've loved MGS2. imo, MGS is one of the best serie ever.... beating clearly is oponent: splinter cell. (well, i don't even think splinter cell and mgs should be in the same category.)

but i must admit : the online on splinter cell kick ass!

Splinter Cell is lame. I enjoyed MGS2, it was certainly worth $50 (which I spent on it), but the story was crap. Yeah, it was all about illuminati esque stuff (The Patriots) and a conspiracy and all that, but Kojima had to be stupid and put in Otocon "sticking" his stepmother, if you know what I mean. :smt083

Oh, and that Raiden and Rose horse shit...god, what the fuck!?! What in the hell made Kojima foist that corny pile of bull crap on us?

But, um, yeah, the game was actually pretty cool. The Atmosphere was awesome, and some parts kicked immeasurable ass. Slipping on bird poop for the first time was great. :smt042
