I don't think it's a retcon. Just because it wasn't mentioned before doesn't mean it didn't happen. I don't recall a scenario where someone mentioned that Big Boss never had his arm cut off. Plus if he's using some concealed high-tech robo-arm, who's going to notice or care enough to mention it? It's a retcon in the sense that it likely wasn't originally intended for him to have his arm missing back when MG1 was released. But it doesn't really conflict with any established official canon, so I'd say it doesn't really count as a retcon. According to the MGS4 database, when Big Boss' body was found after he was killed by Solid Snake, he "had lost both arms, both legs, his right eye, and his right ear". It lists his right eye, which was lost in MGS3, not in his battle with Solid Snake during MG1. So saying he was found with "both" arms missing doesn't mean he lost them both at the same time.
I don't get why people are still trying to make sense of the Metal Gear plot. It's just a load of crap that Kojima pulls out of his ass as he goes.
Same goes with COD, all I hear during the inter-missions is bla bla bla bad guy bla bla bla good guy bla bla bla shoot and BTW where's Jack Bauer? I hate COD but I still buy it go figure <- shame on me!!! Anyway interesting logo
I hope they don't go with the "mini-missions" like they did in MGS4. It just didn't feel like a true Metal Gear game that way.
I think the big difference is CoD knows it doesn't do plot well and doesn't bother trying, whilst MGS still forces you to watch cut-scenes that last for days whilst it pretends to have some really deep serious plot.
http://www.assemblergames.com/forum...ojima-We-want-Hayter-in-Ground-Zeroes-and-TPP It's all part of the fun. It doesn't have to be grade A (or B, or C) storytelling to be enjoyable. MGS4 had mini missions? Are you sure you don't mean Portable Ops or Peace Walker? MGS5 is supposedly open world, so I'm guessing the mission structure will be more like Peace Walker.
http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/84h9k6/metal-gear-solid-v--the-phantom-pain-kojima-interview Kojima - "This will be my last Metal Gear" Right on schedule, i think at this point this quote now qualifies as top runner to be his epitaph.
I Mean in the sense that it was broken down into different smaller missions around the world instead of a single grand mission in one place like earlier games.
