Prometheus: Is this game a sequel, or a prequel ? Cause of what I understand. This particular happens after MGS4. And what I remember from MGS4. Then Solidus Snake's body was burned/incinerated.. So whom can this crispy critter be ? And I did NOT say it was Solid Snake, but Solidus who looks like Big Boss . From MGS2
Er, chronologically it's a prequel to MG, MG2, MGS, MGS2, and MGS4, but a sequel to MGS3, PO, and Peace Walker. When I was referring to Solid Snake, I meant the main character, not the burned guy. Naked Snake (Big Boss) and Solid Snake are two completely different characters. Solid Snake is the clone of Big Boss we know from MG, MG2, MGS, MGS2, and MGS4. Those games take place from the 1990's to the 2010's. Big Boss is the original Snake from MGS3, PO, and Peace walker. Those games take place from the 1960's to the 1970's. This game takes place right after Peace Walker, so it's the year 1974, maybe 75. Solidus would only be about 2 or 3 since the clones were made in 1972. It can't be him.
I know the info, about the different snakes. But since MGS4 was quite the clusterfuck. Then I thought we were going to see a last hurrah to Solid Snake. But thanks for correcting my mistake, so basically we are seeing Big Boss in action. No wonder it is so damn confusing.
Sorry, I thought you were unsure about the info. I figured the eye patch on Snake was a dead giveaway that it's Big Boss and not Solid, therefore meaning that it's not after MGS4. This game is supposed to set up the story for MGS5. MGS5 is the one that will likely star Solid Snake since Kojima said he wasn't finished with him and he's clearly not going to be in Ground Zeros. It will probably take place around the time of MG 1 and 2, or take place between MGS 2 and 4. There's not really anywhere to go with Snake after MGS4.
You and me both! Also, just give me Solid Snake. That is all I want. :biggrin-new: Even though every Metal Gear Solid after 2 was downhill for me (even Raiden dampened my experience), I can still respect what they have achieved graphically... This game looks absolutely gorgeous. Superb animation too!
It looks like Kojima is starting a pattern of future/past games for each console gen. On PS2 we had MGS 2 which was a future title and then MGS 3 which went back to the past. For PS3 we have MGS 4 for the future and MGS Ground Zeroes for the past. MGS 5 then would be a future Solid Snake title..
Snake Eater is probably my favourite MGS. To be honest I'm not really bothered who it is all iterations of Snake look pretty much the same anyway so I can just pretend either way. It's not like I pay much attention to the story, I just enjoy some Tactical Espionage Action. If I had to choose though I think I prefer the past to the future, having the Octocamo kind of spoiled the fun a bit being able to just grab it from the environment. So I'm kind of looking toward to this being in a more modern 20th century setting.
Personally, my favorite is MGS2. I know a lot of people hated Raiden, but I honestly had no problems with him as the main character. I'll take a soldier that's whiny because he's young and inexperienced over a ninja that's whiny because it rained on the day he was born any day. I just wished the Tanker chapter with Snake was a little longer.
Yeah I've got no complaints about MGS2 either. Dispite not featuring Snake for more than 20 mins it was very true to the original in both style and gameplay, the fact that you're a different character doesn't really take anything away from the game.
Arf! The 14 minute trailer is hurting my eyes. I should be used to this after the usual 20 minutess of gameplay interrupted by 20 hours of cinematics but I guess it is a format which never gets old. I remember reading the Official UK PlayStation Magazine and looking forwards to the day when Metal gear Solid was released. I inevitably enjoyed the first game, went out of my way to get hold of VR missions to play as the Ninja and even imported the OST from Japan too, but after playing Metal Gear Solid 2 at a friends house in 2002 I lost all interest in the series and I never fully recovered from it. I rebought the original Metal Sear Solid off the PlayStation Network Store for my PSP-3003 some time ago but the the newer controls annoyed me somewhat so I didnt really play it. I don't think this new video has persuaded me to buy the Ground Zeroes yet, but what I think I will do is hunt for a cheap copy of MGS Twin Snakes and see how I feel about picking up where I left all those years ago.
Twin Snakes is a pretty good remake. It's basically just like the original with better graphics and better cutscenes (better animation, camera angles, etc.). I think there were some differences in the story, but I haven't played it in a while, so I don't remember. Anyway, if you like the first one, you'll probably like Twin Snakes. I like it better than MGS3, really.
Hell, I'd argue that Twin Snakes was the best MGS. It is rare to see worthy remakes, but I think that one outdid itself.
Twin Snakes gets a lot of crap thrown it's way, but I honestly thought it was pretty good. Many fans complain that it's basically MGS1 with MGS2 controls and capabilities thrown in (hanging, lockers, etc), but wasn't that kinda the point? My main issues with the game are both the cutscenes and the acting. The cutscenes were over the top and ridiculous. I didn't know a human could jump on a missile, back-flip off said missile, fire back at the helicopter with his own missile launcher, and land a perfect hit like it was nothing. I know it's a video game, but come on, that's ridiculous. The acting is also unbelievably mediocre. David Hayter gave up half his paycheck so most of the original cast could come back, but nearly everyone except him did a lackluster job. If I was Hayter, I'd be pissed off. What do you mean? The backtracking from the PS1 version is still present in Twin Snakes. What part specifically are you referring to?
MGS was always over the top and ridiculous, if you hadn't noticed from the undead cyborg ninjas, cartoony "theme" bosses, a pretty...interesting idea of how genetics work, ridiculous plot twists and a villain who can fall from a giant robot and emerge unscatched just to chase you in a Jeep shouting "IT'S NOT OVER YET!". I have no idea how anyone ever took the plot of MGS seriously in the first place. The part where, in the PS1 version, you have to take the PAL key to the furnace and outside to heat and freeze it. In Twin Snakes you can find two pipes in the room where you have to use the PAL key that can do this instantly.
I have to agree the Matrix style cut scenes that were all the rage at the time let it down and the voice acting does seem a little forced in places. Major voice acting let down though was the Ninja, he was the only character that didn't have his original voice actor return.
