Today it finally came out in Japan with a lovely SNK 2008 calandar. But I have a few questions about it. you see all the reviews I've read about this all bitch about the controls yet none of them even mention the fact that this works with the classic controller making the controls actually very good. They also bitch about not being able to change the control settings yet in this Japanese version you can change all settings. So does the US and PAL version have different controls? One thing that does piss me off yet not one single review has mentioned it, is the piss poor screen scaling. Metal Slug 1 has a really nasty shimmer effect as if it's skipping scan lines. The other games also have this fault but no where near as bad as Metal Slug one. In fact the only one that looks normal is Metal Slug 6. Could this be because it's the only one that's a port from the Naomi board while all the others are from the Neo Geo? It just seems odd that all the reviews bitch about the controls when in fact the Japanese one at least has a perfectly good set up. Yet no one even mentioned the crappy screen resolutions / scaling. Even when the Wii is set to interlaced it still looks just the same Yakumo
The japanese version has had extra controls added The other versions couldnt use the classic controller hehe.
Arcade games w/ no arcade like controls suck. But the whole Wiimote to throw grenades? Someone should fucking bomb SNK for that bullshit.
Ah, I see  The wait was worth it then. Your telling me! I tried some of the other dumb arse control ideas and they're all bloody awful. I'm not pointing fingers here but aparently this was put together by westerner  I guess that's why the Japanese version has the classic controller set up to at least give the option of Neo Geo style controls. Nope. In the instructions it tells you to set the Wii to interlace mode. I just played it in Progressive scan however it automatically went in to the odd resolution of 525i or at least on my TV it did  Yakumo Yakumo
Yeah, Metal Slug 6 is really poor. Not only does it look odd with those super silky back grounds over lapped by blocky sprites but the plot is stupid. Not to mention it's pretty boring to play. Yakumo
1-5 are 3__ x 240p. 6 (for arcades) is 480p w/ high res backgrounds and low res (recycled), upscaled character sprites. A true abomination. You really only need the first MS and maybe MSX and you're set.
It looks like the Wii is tyhe same. Bloody awful it looks. Why on earth did they think that was a good idea? Yakumo
525i isn't an "odd" resolution, it's simply another way of stating NTSC. As an end user, 480i and 525i are interchangable. They're both representing standard, interlaced NTSC signals. The 525 designation is simply named after the full resolution of an NTSC signal (525 lines) while the 480 designation is named after the viewable resolution of an NTSC signal (480 lines). The same is true of 480p/525p. It's nothing more than a different way of marking things up. Technically the 525i/p designation is more accurate from a signal point of view (after all it is generating 525 lines) though the 480i/p is more accurate from a display point of view (because even though you have a full 525 lines you're not going to generate an image for the lines outside the viewable area). In short, 525i on your TV is perfectly normal. -hl718
I agree with who said all you really need is MS1 & X. The company who did this comp really cocked it up (even the psp version). Sadly it's better to just play metal slug via a NG emu on psp then this. Oh small question. Whats in the simpsons box? Yep tho the atomiswave is a cheapen naomi. So he was not too far off.
I have the pal version of this and it can also use the Classic and gamecube controller. What i really hate about it though is that you can only change the controls when using the classic or gamecube controller. Just using the wii remote works fine except that you have to shake it to throw a grenade >_> And you cant change that to B. (dont have a classic controller so cant use that)
Oh, they are just donuts. Simpson's the Movie only hit Japan mid December so Mr. Donut are having a promotion effort. Yakumo
I'm playing it on a CRT at 525i Still looks arse. Sad really because the Neo Geo games on virtual console look better ! Yakumo
I actually thought it looked pretty decent on my TV. Then again, I have the US version. Or maybe I'm just not corrupted from playing it in the arcades so much
