I've been keeping an eye on this bundle since Day 1 I heard it was coming to the US. I expected it to be a 40GB version, but hoped maybe it would be an 80GB. I've already got a 60GB PS3, but I'm thinking about trying to get one of these if I can for a second Blu ray player.

Still, a bit pricey for what it is. I assume Konami and Sony are going to milk this franchise as much as they can for every cent they can get for as long as they can.

I was considering this, but it doesn't look like it has good BC like the 20GB/60GB. Guess I better get one of those soon, they seem to be hard to find.

Yeah, thats the unfortunate thing about them, which kills it for me. I guess it's not THAT big of a deal, but still, I'd like to be able to shelve/sell my PS2.

    I WANT

    I WAAAANT :(

    I have a dillema:

IF i purchase a gun metal unit, I will most probably want to actually use it instead of store it away in a box and brag about it for years to come (then like a sad person sell it for a crazy price)

    I don't own a PS3.

So, should I, or should I not purchase one , considering I want to use it? =/

I don't see why you can't collect it and use it at the same time. I intend to do that if I can get my hands on one, and I don't think I'll sell it either.. well, until PS4, then I might think about that. (I still have my original PS2 phat). The 80GB MGS4 bundles are cheaper though, and if you don't have a PS3 yet, those are a better deal that will more than likely be sold out day one of release. People are already preordering those in Canada (a lot of preorders have sold out already). Otherwise, you can try to get both bundles, and leave one boxed.

There's really no advantage keeping a 40GB console over the 80GB. Except for running cooler and at lesser wattage, there are no card slots, 2 less USB ports, and no PS2 B/C. There would be nothing to miss about selling this system off someday if you intend to invest in it.

When/how can one obtain the Gun Metal 80GB? Also, will any of this be made available to Europe (As I currently live here)?

Oh! Well that's a different story. No announcement has been made regarding the availability of European Gunmetal editions at this time. The Gun metal edition for the Japanese and US (NTSC-J and NTSC-U/C) are both 40GB models. The 80GB MGS4 bundles include an 80GB PS3 that is piano black - while the 80GB version might be limited in the sense like the Motorstorm bundles were, these are not "extremely limited" (or overpriced) like the Gunmetal edition has been announced to be. (80GB comes with standard ed MGS4 and Dualshock 3 for $499, 40GB Gunmetal comes with limited ed MGS4 + documentary/interview DVD + Gray Dualshock 3 for $599)

You might still can obtain a Japanese Gunmetal bundle preorder from Play-Asia (I think NCSX has sold out - the official preorder sold out within days at the Konami Japanese store website , Konami sold these for foughly $480 I think... or close to $500, cheaper than the NTSC-U/C will cost). Otherwise, if you have a contact in the US, then you can have them order one / import one for you. There is a limit of one order per household... I'm sure people will get around this somehow. Especially ebay scalpers.

Preorders start Monday, but they will not be released until June 12 (less than a month away).

Here's a couple pics of the sexy beast:

Unfortunately, Play-Asia won't ship PS3 or PSP hardware/games to Europe (they'll still happily send me as many PS2 games as my credit card will allow though) - it's fallout from the whole Lik-Sang affair :/ HMV Japan send hardware overseas, it's how I got my second PSP.

The gunmetal colour does look lovely, but I'd personally go for the 80gb because of the better features (or get both!).

That is unfortunate. Well the bundle has been receiving some bad press lately because of the price and the fact the system is a 40GB and not an 80GB. Just look at Engadget, or other blogs/forums. Unless you're a hardcore collector/MGS fan or an ebay scalper/investor, the 80GB bundle is the better way to go.

There's news/rumor/rumour that Europe may be getting the MGS4 bundle including a 40GB piano black PS3. However, I haven't been keeping up to date on that, so I don't know the details (GOOGLE!!)

Japan is getting 3 more MGS4 bundles in 3 different colors (40GB PS3), probably not limited editions. These will probably not be that hard to obtain if you miss your chance with the Gunmetal.

Ebay might have to be the way to go for Europe unless you have a contact/importer in the US, or new news surfaces later on upcoming UK/Europal (PAL) MGS4 bundles.

Any people living in Japan may be interested in knowing that the Japanese rental version of I Am Legend (pretty good movie by the way) comes with a 2nd DVD featuring the prologue of MGS4, What is Metal Gear feature and some other stuff. About 40 minutes of video in total.

Never played a single Metal Gear. How ugly is the first one these days?

very. Get your ass on a GC or Wii and play the remake, people throw shit at it for some reason, but I think they re biased by their nostalgia. You can't deny better graphics , more fluid movement and better over-all presentation.

That said, MGS1 is an easy and short game, albeit very cinematic. The story is (in my view) very over-dramatic (but people think it's deep for some reason because it discusses about how "bad" war is) but you ll enjoy the whole package.

This being true for MGS1, MGS2 and 3 are very different from what I ve gathered (Although I have yet to play either).

I played the first Metal Gear Solid on the Dreamcast using the Bleemcast disc. Looked a lot better than what it did on a standard PlayStation but still ugly. The Game Cube version played on either the Cube or Wii is the way to go if you'd like to play the first Metal Gear.
