The PC version is also very good. PS1 graphics, but without polygon issues and texture pixelation problems.

They messed around with the controls in the GC version and made it a lot easier.

the only reason why it was harder on the PS1 was because the controls/contlroller sucked. Having more ways to solve a problem offers more variety than a dry single-geared presentation. The analogue stick on the PS1 is nowhere near the precision of the GC's, and shooting in first person mode (if you so choose , since its not obligatory) is a hell of a lot of more fun and actually makes sense!

btw, everyone who hasn't played MGS1,2 and 3 (or has played only one of the three)

    http://ps2.ign.com/articles/860/860894p1.html

This is a pretty sweet deal.

30 bucks for all 3 games in a Collection package. The versions included are the VR Missions for MGS, Substance for MGS2 and Subsistence for MGS3.

Now that's a hell of a lot of gameplay time!!! More than 200hr or something crazy like that!

The shitty thing about this however is that once again a PAL release is nowhere to be seen , looks like we Europeans have to pay inflated prices for second-hand copies of the game, far exceeding the 30USD price-point for a brand new copy of the collection

It's all the little things like that that made me turn my back on Pal gaming some years ago, and I've never looked back. The hubbie has his Pal 360, but everything else is Japanese. Almost every game is cheaper and I get them months in advance (assuming they even see a Pal release); I really can't see the downside to importing at all.

It's a shame there isn't any practical way of getting a definite message across to publishers - "Release the games I want to play at the prices everyone else pays for them and I'll happily become a domestic gamer; until then, you can stick it" ;)

unfortunately I own a non-modded PAL PS2. Which kind of makes me want to mod it now really. I guess it's my own fault for wanting original discs and not pirate copies!

Off course. But i think the PC version would be the cheapest way to go. (Even cheaper if you get that MGS collection package for the PS2)

Plus some people might like the original graphics, instead of the remake.

It's a great deal, picked mine up some time ago. Pity it isn't the JPN ltd edition but you can't beat the price.

You're wrong, but I know you won't see past it. The game was designed for the PS1 and dual shock. It wasn't more difficult because of the controls. The GC version is easier because you can hang off ledges, hide in lockers, you get maximum health from the beginning and fully recharges after bosses, they screwed around with the sniper rifle, as well as the things I mentioned before. The port did not make sense, there was no point adding all that MGS2 stuff. MGS2 should have been ported, but it wasn't for whatever reason and instead we must observe the bastard child of MGS1 and MGS2 with silicon knights filming the dirty deed. Disgusting!

If you played the original game, you'd understand.

I know what you mean, I m just teasing with the whole PS1 controller because you love the Playstation - i knowI don't like it and it's not the best controller around when it comes to analogue yet I m fully aware that the hanging and other MGS2 moves are the ones that make the game "easier".

To be frank however, I never/rarely used the hanging feature in the GC version.

oh, and I ve played the original too. I got a free Playstation 1 and some games at the end of its run from a buddy who got a Ps2 brand new!

I never even had a dual shock controller for my PSX so I played it with the original controller. Was the controll better with the DS controller? I personally had no problem with my none-DS controller.

Psycho Mantis's encounter is more impressive with a DS vs the regular controller.

Yeah, I actually prefer the digital control for MGS, but the rumble was used well in the story. So it's something you missed if you only used a standard old skool controller.

MGS 1 was tons of fun way back on PS1....I need to get the Gamecube version. I read a big article on why the PS1 version was way better, but I think I'd still prefer the GC one.
