Man, with all the flip-flopping Microsoft has done since launch, the life of the Xbox One has been less of a console launch and more of a circus act. Just goes to show that no matter how much success you had last generation, that doesn't mean you'll be able to to whatever you like next generation. Sony, Nintendo and Sega have all learned this lesson, seems like it's Microsoft's turn now!
I agree. But at least they changed their stupid attitude. Dan Mattrick arrogance, no used games, always online, Kinect mandatory, online services behind a paywall,... Things were terrible. Now some people say Microsoft is copying PlayStation Plus with Games for Gold, but that''s ok. Why not copy a good idea?! Also, it doesn't matter if the Xbox One isn't as powerful as the PS4. Most people don't know / don't care about resolution differences and technical stuff like that. Let's not forget that the PS3 always had problems to keep up with Xbox360 on multiplatform games, and even with a terrible start (insane prices, not much games, terrible online services), Sony still managed to save the console, even before first PS3 Slim. But it's was only by late 2009 when they launched it, with a way cheaper price, that things started to get better. My only complaint with Microsoft, are their "proprietary" HDs (Same issue i have with Vita's proprietary's memory cards). On Xbox One case is worse, since you can't upgrade, just add USB hdds. Just imagine that 2 years in the future. PS3 and PS4 have regular notebook HDs, easily replaceable and by customer choice.
They'll probably release a slim/revised version with upgradable drive bay. Everything is very early at this stage, so who knows how it will play out. If Spencer has the brains to get XBOX out of the shit, then it may have a chance here.
PS4 is a more powerful machine. It is a definitive fact. Architecture is same generally. 8 AMD Jaguar cores + GCN GPU. But PS4 GPU has 18 compute units while xbone just 12. PS4 has 32 ROPs while xbone 16. 8 ACEs vs 2. Unified RAM with 176Gb/s bandwidth vs 68Gb/s + 102Gb/s 32MB (too small for deferred engine).
DAMN! , If i had known this before then i would have waited .... , i never use my kinect , 100 euro wasted
The problem with nintendo is that its a toy company with a lifestyle mentality that now has to compete with google, apple, microsoft and sony, but it doing so its products are becoming the opposite of a good deal: quality is still toy-like, there no innovation just rehashes and gimmicks, hardware spec is subpar and to seal the deal the price is too high specially when compared to phones and tablets. Basically if you are not a nintendo fanboy you have no good reason to buy a nintendo console anymore, its just not worth the price of entrance
THIS. I bought my wii U soley for Sonic lost world, played lost world for few weeks quite a bit then realised there was literally NOTHING else on the system that really interested me so sold it lol.
Don't forget Nintendo still hasn't got their online system to work decently, at least for the customers point of view. WiiU accounts are tied to the console, meaning you can't deactivate it ever. You have no freedom to sell the console and keep your account. People who tried to delete their account from their WiiUs ended up deleting the account from Nintendo servers. That's right, all digital purchases simply gone, with no refunds. Also, i really don't understand why they region locked the 3DS.
@Riki nice to see someone regurgitate specs that everyone else but the savages of papa new guinea do not know. Now Riki if you so be a good lad fetch me the specs of the Xbox one with all CPU and GPU spec details from Microsoft not some sites like Eurogamer, ng4, neogaf, and armchair tech head then well talk specs because as far as I know the full "specs" have not been officially been released. Like it or not fanboy I reserve final judgment of tech specs when Microsoft fully discloses the specs otherwise I look like a tool for making assumptions into facts sound familiar? @smf true to a certain degree but instead of confirming what you think I'm thinking about in terms of hidden power so you agree that it can go two ways one where the Xbox one is weaker, and one where is stronger can't make a final decision without a full spec reveal. As for the Dev tools on a basic defining level do tell how DX 12 and open GL are the same? You can go on how one can emulate the other but can you explain how the Xbox One is full DX 12 ready with their so-called "weak" hardware and the PS 4 is not without going to the logical childish conclusion that one is made by Microsoft and the other is made by Sony. Because off the top of my head with the specs of the Xbox one it should not be able to run DX 12 at all. But alas either you dislike Microsoft and favor Sony or vice or versa I value both of your opinions and gladly "Agree to Disagree" and let's wait for E3 to see which platform has a better showing "Gamewise" to fuel the hardware debate.
What's so innovative about the PS4 and Xbox One? Yeah, the hardware is more powerful, but that's not innovation. I like Nintendo's simple hardware and I prefer their games. I wish their online system was more coherent, but truly I prefer to play online games on my computer and local multiplayer with friends on Nintendo consoles. When I play with a Sony or Microsoft console, I feel like I'm using a shitty computer, because that's all they really are. Nintendo's consoles may feel like toys, but sometimes I want to get off of the computer and play with toys. Of course, the Wii U's best title is still a 10 year old game with more polygons now, but isn't Call of Duty 22 just Call of Duty 21 with more polygons? Truthfully, this gen sucks so far all around.
As I would tend to agree with you darcagn the use of the word "innovation" is a slippery slope the errs on reason as just about anything thing can be innovative but it gets used with and paired with the reasoning of who did what "first" and if someone else copies. This is true but copying techwise has been done since the dawn of "market" competition. So let's get off this "innovative" train of thought for a moment and examine the Wii U with respect to the Xbox One and PS4 console wise without throwing in "PC" trumps all argument which seems to be the go to play when cornered. The Wii U is a good system well built with bells and whistles however with regards to comparing it to the Xbox one and PS4 tech wise it is much weaker there is no denying that. Gameswise the Wii U library of games is dominated by First Party titles which is awesome and great but the public at large are not buying it as determined by sales of software where 3rd party titles sell much much less than the dirst party titles. IMO I don't feel the Wii U is a toy or is "kiddie" it is morso intentially or unintentially "Geared" toward the younger and Nintendo centric crowd. And to address the reasoning of well the Xbox one and PS4 are just fecal material that an opinion and despite their PC like arch offer games that are not found on the Wii U which the public at large are wanting to play. Not everyone who have capable gaming game on PC exclusively using my own anecdotal evidence most that I have played online withlay on both their home console and PC equally Dependant on the game of course. And with Wii U not having a robust online component and establishing the groundwork of online infrastructure dating back to the GameCube days Nintendo is woefully playing catch up and maybe too late to offer a compelling and competative online gaming component outside of their Wii wares and gaming back log IMO. So if you dislike this gen so much that is your opinion but your opinion much like mine will not change the dismal online state and sales of the Wii U and that is a fact.
http://misterxmedia.livejournal.com/ - that is a good site for you to seek hidden power We even have chips scan. There is no place on chip for "hidden power". ALL of multiplatform games perform worse because of power difference.
Sometimes is not that people doesn't know their history to repeat the same wrong thing in the future, is that they actually expect their costumers forget about DRM shit and accept it by force, thank god it didn't happen. I think in the case of x360 and PS3, the PS3 was more powerful indeed, but not something like 2x as the PS4 for the XONE. Also, more difficult to program. Also, at least on another forum that I frequent, people praised Phil Spencer (Xbox CEO since March) after doing the best to promote the console and eliminate the bad image from the announcement, and now doing an version without Kinect, something that players wanted because they didn't want to pay 500 dollars. One of the guys from the another forum even said why they didn't put spencer as CEO long ago. At least they are cleaning their dirt ASAP. At least it wasn't something like the PS3 were the damages were in a long term, it was too expensive to manufacture, the hardware made their version being commonly inferior, and the price tag was even way higher than the X360, 200 dollars of difference at the time.
The Xbox One is just another victim of the 3rd console curse. They always get stupid around the 3rd system and fuck it up.
I'm not throwing in the "PC trumps all" card. I am not that into PC gaming. I run a completely Apple outfit in my home. My gaming is primarily on vintage consoles (1985-2003 era). But if people can claim mobile devices (iPhones, Android handsets, etc.) will throw the 3DS and Nintendo handhelds into obsolescence, then why can't the PC do the same to the console? Both the PC and Microsoft/Sony consoles tend to cater to similar markets. But the PC almost always does it better. The one thing that PCs don't do well, and neither do the Microsoft/Sony consoles either, is local multiplayer. Nintendo has a whole range of stellar pick-up-and-play games that I can play with guests of all ages, whether they're into video games or not. The Wii U makes it easy to entertain friends and family, whether it's my young niece and nephew visiting and playing New Super Mario Bros. U with me, or my old friends coming over some Saturday night and getting fucked up on substances and playing Nintendoland. I feel that is a uniquely "console" experience, but Microsoft/Sony consoles seem to have lost touch with this as their local multiplayer always takes a back seat to the online experience. Even forcing the Kinect down people's throats with the bundle didn't seem to push anything interesting out of the Xbox One in the local multiplayer realm. So it's not that "PC trumps all," it's that Microsoft/Sony consoles have stopped trying to be consoles and try to be PCs, and they're not as good at being a PC as a PC is. Meanwhile Nintendo continues to offer consoles that have more of a real console experience. That is why I respect what Nintendo does in the console realm more than I do Microsoft/Sony. As far as cost, most people spend at least somewhere around $500 for a computer. If you didn't spend $400+ on an Xbox One or PS4, you could buy a $900 computer instead which is capable of power beyond the Xbox One or PS4. The Xbox One and PS4 basically have no unique features beyond exclusive games without PC ports. Last thing: I'm just giving you my opinion on why I like Nintendo stuff. I find it weird that when I give my opinion, some people like to refute my opinion (as if it's possible to refute an opinion) by stating sales figures that suggest that the majority of people don't share my opinion. I play the games I find fun regardless of whether they're best-selling titles. Again, I'm hardly a PC gamer and I mostly play vintage console games.
