I just got around to my monthly Segaxtreme forum check when I noticed this topic about 32X tombraider:http://www.phantasy-star-universe.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=370&st=0 In it, somebody mentions a 32X demo by "Zyrinx", and posts the link to a video later on: http://www.scene.org/file.php?file=...rinx_sega32x_demotape_1995-hirmu.wmv&fileinfo After watching it I was like :smt119 :smt120 :smt118 :smt104 :smt033 :smt119 Oh my god! You'd swear it was running on a DC :smt119 The odd thing is, the file is hosted on scene.org (a demoscene website), and it has a very demo-ish effect to it... it all makes me think it wasnt made by Sega, but maybe in cooperation with them (as the Sega logo is shown a few times). Anyone got some more info on this? *off to get the drool bucket*
rayer: it simply looks amazing..... what if there were games looking like that on the 32X in that time..... just think of the impact....... wow, just wow
If this is the true power of the 32X, why the hell didn't they make games that look like this. With these kind of graphics they could have made 1st gen saturn games like sega rally or panzer dragoon kind of games for the 32X. :smt104 :smt103 :smt118 :smt119
Downloading right now. Can't wait to see. EDIT: F*cking cool! :smt040 The Voxel Space scene is amazing! Now I know the true power of my loved 32X.
Yeah, I remember this one, is really impressive. 32X and Dreamcast. We will never see a game that could use their full potential... PD
oi you damn peeps!! You know its like a 40mb file and i have like 15-20mins to wait! :smt022 Me Needs 1mb connection! :smt022 Ahhh thats a rather lovely video.... If only sega got their power behind stuff like that even if people werent willing to buy it that much at least showing how powerfull their hardware could of been would of made developers look up and also of helped the saturn... That is a rather amazing video tho!
Something made me wonder after watching the video. The graphical qualities are better than PSX/Saturn. I did not saw polygon warping, there's great gourad shading and lightning, plus the landscape is really amazing. The view distance is limited by fog, but it's great nonetheless. But why the hell it was not fully used? I might be wrong, but the only game that seems to push the 32X are Virtua Racing Deluxe and Star Wars Arcade. Another question. If 32X can handle that ammount of polygons + textures, why Virtua Fighter 32X is so slow? :smt017 I think this was just a video to promote the 32X, on it's prototype stages, that probably was more powerful. Then someone inside Sega probably thought: Why not released a new system? (Saturn). Anyway these mysteries is that makes the gaming world so cool.
I just can't believe that that video is showing what a 32X can do. I'm not an expert when it comes to the 32X....but from playing one a few times and seeing how poorly it did other 3D games I just can't accept that that video is real ^_^
Well Sega knew when they released the 32x that it wouldn't do well due to the upcoming Saturn. The only reason people would buy one would be if there was a really popular game on it so I assume it might just be sloppy port to make the release date. Most of Sega's top talent was probably busy with the Saturn anyways. Just my 2 cents...
wow that is awesome just think of this if they had made a megacd/gensiscd game and used the 32X as an axellerator there was a romour that they had plans on that. really truly awesome about that tech demo wow i am thinking that turok the dinosaur hunter 1 could have been made on that piece of hardware wow i am truly amazed wow that is what i say wow
I haven't seen this video yet (Now downloading) but I wonder if it's the same as the one I saw years and years ago before the 32X was released. that video showed many 32X game looking a million times better than what they did once they were released. Yakumo
Nope its not its just like a series of tech demos abit like the ones u scaned in for the dreamcast...
woah , im downloading right now.! can someone find others videos like that ? like the one yakumo is talking about ?
About Tomb Raider. Well it came out on the Saturn first, then to the PSX. So maybe during pre-production, they planned on making it for 32x but then when they heard about Saturn the transition was easier and it gave them more power for prettier graphics. About the demo. OMFG!! Thats the power of the 32x. However thats only what it could do. I think if it were to do that plus sound and any other processes then it wouldn't be able to handle it. I think the only games that almost mimicked that demo were Darxide, Metal Head, and Virtua Fighter. Did Darxide come out to the USA?
Very impressive indeed As someone pointed out, that kind of graphics are very similar to the first generation Saturn games.
Wow! That was crazy. just think, if the 32X really had that kind of power, what were Saturn and Dreamcast turly capable of? Also, if 32X Launch titles looked like that, it would have been way more successful. The graphics were as good or better than PS1 and SS, but the 32X was way cheaper than both mentioned consoles. If this is truly what 32X was capable of, and if game companies actually made games using this power, then Sega might still be a hardware company today.
woah! !! WELCOME TO THE NEXT LEVEL.... They weren't joking!!! damn!!! why ?!! why no games on 32x looked like THIS??! :smt009 and i tought DOOM for 32x had great graphics for the 32x....!!!!! whoa! ''....all running 100% real-time on a standard 32x!! '' so.... sega haven't made a cheap system , they really belived in it! but hey , if it run on a standard 32x .... they are saying that they made a 32x cart of this .....? :smt118 i really love my sega 32x now! :-D SEGA, SEGA,SEGA!!!!!!!!! MAKE A COME BACK PLZ!!!!!
I know what you are saying man, if only sega would have invested in the 32X instead of using it as filler until the Saturn shipped they might still have been in the hardware business. Most people think the 32X is crap because Sega did not really care about the system. It was just there, and that made a lot of consumers mad.
