The lens-flare are fake they couldn´t even pull that on SS :smt015 Overal very fake for 32x maybe for some proto SEGA system? Definitely not 32x
Funny, looks just right for a 32x to me. Generally low polygon count, grainy textures, and close draw in distance. Looks right on par for what a skilled programmer could do with ample time.
However finds it on Ebay or some auction PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LET ME KNOW SO THAT I WILL BUY IT!!!
Re: ... Exactly my point. And I don't personally consider those 'demo effects'. Not that they don't look good, but they're not demo effects in the classic sense. I'm talking hardware up to the 32x, basically. Anything that's raster-based, and either tilemap-based or bitmap-based. There are no useful 'demo effects' on the PC because with modern technology, you can basically just write to a frame buffer however you'd like (I know the specifics aren't quite that way, and that direct hardware VGA access is dog slow), so there's no real 'demo effects' that you can do that push the limits of the hardware. And with the wide variance in hardware, you can't rely on a certain amount of cycles taking a constant amount of time, so you can't do things like splitting the background color. I guess it's basically the difference between oldschool and newschool demos. The oldschool sticks to the hardware banging, while the newschool focuses more on the design due to what I said above (and it's a gray line - there are several modern C64 demos that pay just as much attention to design as to technical feats).
You know www.videogamedepot.com use to post movies of the unreleased x-men for 32x, it looked pretty good and was in full 3d. They even had a neptune shell for sale for a ridculess price. Not sure if they have that stuff anymore do to the fact that its not posted anymore on their site. But if you ask them maybe they will repost it, they even had a document proposal for a new sonic on 32x.
LocalH, You are very very wrong."Newschool" demos are much more difficult than oledskool demos, simply because the hardware is much more powerfull. And believe me,there is a lot of hardware banging+you need to know lots of maths in contrast to oldskool demos where you found yourself cycle optimizing silly effects. People who have actually developed some demos know this difference very good, and do not think i am talking nonsense.I 've done my time with direct vga effects and now i am developing a 3D engine for modern hardware. You really, really, cannot compare the twne is a man's toy,the other is for babies.Something like that.
woah! everything thing you said is amazing! a neptune shel! !!!!!! a sonic 32x! !!!! a 3-d x-men game for 32x! rayer: can you repost it?
My point is, it's basically like two different classes. Some people prefer oldskool (myself), and others prefer newskool. Give me a C64 or a Genesis anyday, I'd rather code a demo for those machine than something 3d-based, I personally find it more fun and more rewarding. I'll admit, I've not coded any demos on PC - that's because I have no urge to want to do so. I hate the x86 architecture and do not code for it. Besides, oldskool raster-based effects have that warm and fuzzy feeling to them ^_^
X86 Amen to that. It's about time we moved on to something less bogged down instead of relying on hacks upon hacks upon hacks...
Agreed. I wasn't too impressed with that video. It's not Saturn quality, and not even remotely close to Dreamcast. There's only a couple of different textures, the draw distance is shocking, and the framerate drops noticeably in some places. It reminded me of Jaguar games like cybermorph, and in this case if you factored in i/o, AI, and other real-world constraints the poly count would have to drop a little bit, so it would be just about right for 32X.
Re: X86 Couldnt agree more with you... and you're not even an asm programmer (yet) :smt023 However, the industry seems to be moving in the opposite direction :smt011
sure! Héhé, Ok, just do it :smt022 . This is my dev doc about the 32x:http://fvring.free.digitartstudio.com/index.php?main=cga&sub=32x Good luck (personnaly, i have problem just with turning the 32x on without crashing the genesis, lol). Fonzie
you are a french guy , aren't you? :smt117 ___ ahah! j'ai decouvrit ton identité, tous le monde sait que les accents n'existe pas en anglais, gwahahah! tu est de belguique, de france ou du quebec? :smt024
yo Yo, yes, I'm French, you saw my website to know that or its because of my crappy english :smt040 ?
i saw it before reading what you wrote , everyone know that there's no ''accents égus '' (''héhé'') in english , that's why i know you where a french guy ;-) ( i saw your site after knowing you where french and after reading what you wrote :smt023 ) so, where are you from ? ps (for the members of the forum) : that's why we shouldn't pass to a member only forum ;-)
