    FWIW I'm experimenting with building a WiFi adapter for the DC that plugs directly into the dial up modem. Parts should arrive today, I'll make a post when there's something to show!

    This is an awesome project, and I want one :D Joined specifically to has want.

    I have two successful Kickstarters under my belt (admittedly for sci-fi novels - Imperial Nova 1 and 2) with a third planned, but it means I have a good knowledge of how the system works and can help either set one up or at least assist in nailing the rewards for the audience and would happily help in the manufacture and distribution of any rewards which aren't the main product (because my soldering skills suck, let alone any sophisticated hardware/software work).

    If a KS isn't needed, then I await whoever creates this device so I can GIVE YOU MY MONEY!

    After looking at THIS, I learned it's possible to connect the Dreamcast online at today's Internet connection with the Dial-up modem using some specifics devices, like a particular router, a line simulator, and, if you want to increase the data transfer, a V92 serial modem.

    So, I was thinking... How about create a single device combining the devices cited above? It could be a single, small device, with two Ethernet jacks (one jack for in and other for out), and two phone jacks with line simulator, plus wifi if possible (in visual, it can look something like THAT DEVICE). With such device, could be possible:
    • To put devices where a phone line is required to connect them at Internet using today's Internet connection;
    • Link two devices to play P2P softwares in the same place, not requiring to use a phone line do this job. It even can use a software to allow two people to play, through the Internet, a dial-up P2P game;
    • Connect up to two Dreamcasts at the same device to play a Internet required online game, where can be possible connect online to access a public server, or connect to a local PC to play using a personal game server. Using the last option, two devices can be used to connect up to four Dreamcasts to create a LAN Party.
    This device could be used not only with Dreamcast, but with any other console or device with a dial-up modem to connect at Internet using a dial-up connection, or to connect two consoles with a P2P system.

    In other words, even a dial-up modem for Saturn, PlayStation 2 or GameCube, (and even old PCs and other consoles) who uses a software who asks for a dial-up connection and are incompatible with broadband adapters can "rise from your grave" with such device.

    Even a Kickstarter campaign is possible to do with no worry about copyright issues...

    I've done what rouken proposed to play Phantasy Star Online many times. All it takes is something like a small disused office PABX unit (which will supply phone line voltage to both modems and generate ring voltage at the call receiving modem) to perform that stunt.

    After that is solved the only trick is rig some sort of NAT routing. With Windows XP I was able to route packets without any additional software by just playing a smart packet forwarding idea using Windows internal networking settings.

    It's an annoying kludge which having a BBA makes a moot point.

    Still a few titles don't support the BBA and you have no choice but use the modem.

    i was mostly joking around, but really, that is kind of a fix most problems solution that does make the moband adapter that we are all here to talk about a little less relevant
