    Hi,
Has anyone successfully region modded a Japanese PS1 console?
Me and my colleagues have been trying for a while but no success.

Am interested in schematics for ANY Japanese PS1 console model (not PsOne). (if anyone has for SHPC-1000 that would be great )

Just checking: You do have the right chips, yes? They work by overriding the disc's region code by the one the console expects, so make sure your chip matches the console's region. As far as schematics are concerned, there shouldn't be any differences between regions afaik.

Most Japanese consoles (basically, all of them except the early production SCPH-1000s) have a region check in the boot ROM - so even if you successfully bypass the wobble based territory check in the CD controller using a modchip you will still only be able to boot discs with Japanese license data on them - you can use something like a Caetla based cheat cartridge or a boot disc to get around this.

Electrically, the differences between the models for the various regions are minimal - all of the important hardware is identical. The changes are as follows:

    1) PSU - different for each region, to match local supply voltage and safety rules
    2) Boot ROM - 3 Variants, NTSC:J, NTSC:U/C and PAL
    3) CD control MCU - 3 Variants, NTSC:J, NTSC:U/C and PAL
    4) Video DAC - NTSC:J and PAL use the same one, NTSC:U/C has a 7.5IRE black offset (older machines only - handled by the boot ROM later)
    5) Clock - PAL uses a different version from the NTSC variants
    6) Video encoder - same chip, but some of the passives are changed between PAL and NTSC versions
