This video is just... WTF? Blowing NES cartridge is one big myth. Cleaning the gold cart with the alcohol will do the job.

This video is interesting. Let wait for another 20 years and see what the reaction from future teens trying out the PS4.

Apparently to the people that made the video, they know that blowing in the cartridge is not a good way. They just don't want kids messing with rubbing alcohol or something. I swear them kids are not smart. My friends, who don't even like games that much know about the NES.

I think they also mislead the kids into thinking that you always had to do that when you wanted to play a game. If you actually cleaned your games or kept them clean, it wasn't usually a problem. I do remember people doing that thinking it would help. But even to this day if you clean your games you probably won't have any issues. It's like a big ongoing myth.

To me it was just an activity to get the kids doing the same things we did as a kid so they could feel what it was like for a child in the 80s. After all the NES was marketed at all ages, sometimes we had to think of our own ways to solve problems even at a young age. I always assumed that dust and debris would cause contact issues so always blew in the cartridge when it wouldn't work just in case something was hiding in there out of sight. Usually it worked, after a dozen attempts of taking it in and out of the system as well. I think it worked in combination of both, it really did feel like blowing was the trick that saved the day sometimes. Good cartridge management is obviously the best method for keeping the system running flawless.

"Mordern" teens? Is that like a combination of Mordor and modern?

Plus this is 20 (almost 30) year old hardware. Unless someone took real good care of that NES, it's definitely not in the same shape it was in in 1985. The 72 pin adapter probably needs to be fixed, the 10NES chip is on the fritz, and most of these kids never had to deal with RF.

Someone has spent the last week or so killing Orcs...

Don't forget the systems that were barely used and just put back int he box and waited for years. Those are in great shape! I have one from a cousin that boots all the time blowing/cleaning or not. Maybe most users here played their NES 30 hours a week for years, but a lot of systems are barely used and as long as they were properly stored, they're fine!

That said, I like the kid that compared it to vinyl records. Yeah it's old and obsolete, but it's also enjoyable and is historically/technically important. It has panache!

I'm just saying that Nintendo's designers weren't engineering the system to still boot up fine 30 years later. If longevity past, say, 3 or 4 years was a concern at all, it was low on the priority list.

Either can I... they are stupid, pointless, worthless, horrible and a fuckton of other things. I'm pissed off to the point where I'm sick of people posting these like they wouldn't show up on the side on YouTube anyway.

Most of those kids are just idiots when it comes to gaming. My 7 year old son would have no issues at all setting up a new if I handed him one right now.

8 years old kid left in a room with AV Famicom in a box, a few carts, TV and a receiver. When we returned he was finishing last boss in Contra. Not only he managed to connect all the cables, select inputs on receiver and TV but also beat the game that isn't that easy :D

P.S. Really, these fake reactions videos are just stupid and boring.

Some kids we give too much credit, and some we don't.
That being said, the NES was the most pain in the ass video game system I ever have. The others need either one cleaning or cap replacement. My NES constantly needs cleaning, despite me using alcohol and deoxit. That's why I usually stick with my Tri-Star on my SNES.
