That's a good article. I guess I hadn't paid too much attention to the fact that someone was out there reprinting the rarities. Slashing open new games to sell them as used and at a higher price is just the kind of shit gamestop would do too. edit: Just did a quick search for Rez on eBay... there is an obvious difference now. I hadn't searched for Rez or Gitaroo Man in a long while.
The only guys against this company are those speculative bastards over ebay:110: Honestly I think is a great idea and in fact I had a similar idea but to publish uncut versions of M games in their original A (adults only) form. I would be a millonaire with the uncensored GTA-SA alone:dance:
Along the same lines as this topic... Do you guys think Rez, or any other of the formerly rare games, are now worth picking up? I am considering getting a copy of Rez as I have heard it's actually a good game. Someone had a thread on here a while back, but I can't find it now as "rez" is too short of a search term, and I'm feeling to lazy to go through page after page of thread titles. In any case, is Rez worth $50 for a reprint? (even though they are identical to the originals, it is easy to assume the many, many new copies appearing on eBay are all reprints)
They should reprint Suikoden2, Valkyrie Profile, and Tales of Destiny 2. I'll be a happy man if they do that.
Well, I only buy NTSC-J games, so you can be assured there will be a reprint of them at some point if it's on a Sony system.
Rez is not a game, is an entire experience. Is funny how nobody can see the great bussines potential this game has...
Rez PS2 vs DC? How does the PS2 version of Rez compare to the DC version? I still have yet to buy the Dreamcast version but I was wondering in the PS2 version is any better.
I saw it once, and honestly the fact that the PS2 does not have AA by hardware takes some of the graphic quality away
I admit I'm kind of torn here. On one hand I admire what their doing by allowing others that didn't have a chance to play these games to finally enjoying them and think the idea is genius. That they're not gouging on the prices is another plus. The flipside though is that I've always taken a somewhat pride in my ability to pick games that end up rare and my ability to spot deals and they've basically called that into question. What's the point of collecting rare games if they won't be rare? That part about gamestop really pisses me off. I recently found a copy of Cubivore there and thought I found a deal. Now I think I just got screwed.
Hmm, personally I don't like it. All they are doing is making yet another big company that pushes out the little guy. Sure we can get games cheaper but where is the fun inhunting those title down now? Yakumo
Fucking Gamestop. Ever since their merger with EB, they've been jacking up the prices ridiculously. Last time I was in, they had no fewer than five copies of Xenogears for PSX marked at $34.99. Not only were these recent reprints (They have the Square-Enix logo on them), but just two months ago they sold for a mere $19.99. And yes, as a former employee I can confirm that Gamestop opens new games to mark them up as used, although this is done at the warehouse level and not by individual stores. And I sympathize with you on the Cubivore issue, A.Snow. My local Gamestop got two copies in - and the bastards wanted $40 a pop.
These guys at GQD sound pretty cool. They wanna re-release any game that goes for $100+ on Ebay! Cool. I have to say, reprints of RadiantSilvergun and PanzerRPG would be welcomed, and it'd be funny watching the response on Ebay. I would hope however, that they'd start contacting companies about fully complete unreleased games. There's loads of games out there that were ready to go that they could get the right to finally publish. I'd certainly pay for a 'real' copy of PropArena, especially if they had servers on the go and activated the online play. Same with HalfLife and HLOnline for the DC. And of course, Take the Bullet. What about Indiana Jones and Myst for the Mega CD too? I wish these guys the best of luck, and hope they decide to go down this more interesting route of game releases.
There's very little chance GQD will ever release Take The Bullet unless they can also pay for developer Red Lemon to actually complete the game, though it would be a personal dream come true if they were somehow able to convince Sega that enough of a market exists to release the second revision of Saturn Virtua Fighter 3 (yeah, right)... Reissuing games like Radiant Silvergun or Panzer Dragoon Saga wouldn't be a bad thing at all in my opinion, as I'm personally tired of reading about titles that are more famous for their rarity and high eBay prices as opposed to actually being any good. Fortunately, I didn't pay £100+ for my copy of the latter, but if I had done I seriously doubt I would have found it a worthwhile investment - regardless of how brilliant it happens to be!
Rez is a unique game as far as presentation goes, but it is highly linear (on rails) and very short. So if artistic vision means nothing to you in a game then yes, its shit.
ok, it's a done deal Games shouldn't try to be art. It's not possible, just pretentious bullshit. I'm sure everyone that reads Edge will love Rez ;-)
A friend once described Rez to me as being like a combination of Panzer Dragoon and Tron, which didn't really set me up for the overall experience that it was in the end when I finally located a copy of the Dreamcast version. To answer an earlier question, the DC edition runs at 30fps and has anti aliasing while the PS2 edition has double the frame rate but no anti aliasing. I can't really choose one over the other, and I know some people prefer higher refresh rates while others dislike the "jaggies" problem that plagues so many PS2 games in comparison to their Dreamcast counterparts. On the other hand, I've heard that females like the PS2 version more for some reason...
Back on topic, I'm with A. Snow, happy that these games don't cost an arm and a leg, but sad that being able to pick out which titles will be rare no longer matters. If only they'd start reprinting Sega CD and Saturn games...
Its the fact that people don't want to pay ridiculous prices for such games. I can understand for old cart based games, but for DVD/CD based games, they are easier to reprint and cheaper than PCEngine games, Genesis, etc.
