I too find it totally disgusting what gamestop is doing but aside. I think the re-releasing are a good idea but they should at least mark the re-releases in some form to make it obvious it is indeed a re-release as opposed to the original. This might be the wrong forum to say this but it's nice to see so many hoarders who profit off gamers who want to legally own and play a rare game for fun (rather then profit or bragging rights) finally lose their monopoly. On the otherhand, GQD might well become far to big for itself and dominate the entire re-release market and make quite a tidy profit.
well it is funny when you go in to buy a used game and they pull out the sleeve with the disk then you ask to see it. Goddamn it is the newest looking used game ever. I never knew they did that shit though...how lame.
they would allow people to "waste" more moneys on devkits and protos anyway a smart company i have to say... and if they start reprinting satrurn games...... it would be WOW!
Amen to that. I wouldn't get any hopes up of a Radiant Silvergun reprint - the company seems to be dealing with NTSC/U releases only, and I'd imagine it would be awfully tough for a US-based company to secure reprinting rights to a Japan-only release. Panzer Dragoon Saga on the other hand is a likely alternative, and one I wouldn't mind seeing done. They've apparently got all of Working Designs' back stock - nice to see the chance to snag a new Cosmic Fantasy 2! I'd really be beside myself with joy if they somehow got to re-release the PSX Lunar titles, though.
Well I disagree on that, as in a select few cases I do consider certain games to be art. But that discussion's for another thread. Also, I hate EDGE. First time I ever read on of their mags I could hardly find a single page without incorrect information (particularly in their retro section) or biased opinions. Its hard to believe people that know so little about games get paid to write about them. Back on topic though: I am somewhat torn on the matter of reprints. On one hand, it underminds the collectors market, but on the other hand, its a great thing to be able to purchase previously difficult-to-come-by games at affordable prices in stores once more. I picked up a copy of Rhapsody just a few days ago, and knowing its a reprint doesn't make me any less happy that I finaly got a copy (I've been wanting to try it for years, but I don't pirate PS1 games, and I wasn't willing to spend what it was going for on ebay). So I suppose in the end im glad that someone finaly realized that their was money to be had in re-printing hard-to-find/valuable games.
On the other hand why would Sega say no. It is basically free money to them since GQD would be paying to do all the work. Don't forget that Sega licensed their name to Majesco for the Genesis 3 and that was an entire system.
Making rare GOOD games more accesible to the masses is something I heartly aprove! I only hope they don't sell the remainder of WD stock too high, because I want some of those games.
Can someone explain why Gamestop sells the games as second hand? Makes little sense to me, so there must be something to it.
I'm all for this. People need to experience these games, and high prices often keep them from doing so. Plus, the original creators get the money in the case of a reprint rather than some dude on eBay or Gamestop getting a wad of cash. I always felt bad buying a used game from Gamestop, knowing full well the original creators wouldn't see a penny of it. I cross my fingers for Panzer Dragoon Saga (though I know it's remote). I'd love to own a copy. The price deters me, especially since I've already beaten it. ^_^;;
My 2 cents. Frankly this reprinting is BS imo. Its the same as someone hoarding a case of sealed Silverguns. More cash for the few, the genuine game fan/collector gets shafted. If they ever start doing jp stuff (especially pce, ss etc) I'll go f***ing ape. If you're not clued up enough to get a game first time round, tough imo. If you're late to the party and you're really dedicated you will find a copy, no matter what. No released game for the systems in question is that rare that a copy can't be found pretty easily. As for the older generations, well much as I hate them there are emus, isos, copies etc, theres not a reason imo to even contemplate reissuing retro stuff. For current gens we all know how rife modchips are etc. As far as I see it, it is just a way a company has found to make more quick bucks at the expense of the general gamer (and to the potential detriment of the dedicated gamer/collector).
I've come to realize it was rather silly to expect ROI on buying something that's essentially a toy. I for one welcome our new reprint overloards. Why should one have to pay out the ass because Atlus, for example, is too dumb to print more than six copies of anything it makes?
