He's right though, it was the right move to shift the series away from the style of the over-rated first three games. That game design is horribly dated.

The first 3 (4 counting Code veronica) and their tank controls sucked balls.

He's right when he says that the series needed to move away from the previous three. Those controls sucked ass then, and they suck even more now.

He's wrong when he says the series needed to become more action oriented. RE4 at least had elements of survival horror. RE5 is a joke when it comes to horror, and isn't that the whole reason we play RE games, or at least the reason we used to?

On a side note Yoshinori Ono the Street Fighter producer was hospitialized. I think the pressure Capcom has him under is getting to him. You can bet Ono is on the Fans side and he would have released SF X T finished.

When I was a kid playing RE2 in the dark at night in my room.. it was just AMAZING. I didnt notice the bad controls. And I dont notice it now. But what I do notice is a shit behind the name RE5.

I find nothing wrong with this article. I've been critical of the design of the RE series since I was introduced to it back in 98.

No. The controls and design of the first three RE games are obviously what made them great, and they continue to hold their own and are still great today. To say these things about the games suck is like saying all the jumping in Mario games sucks. It's all very well wanting to broaden your audience but it shouldn't be at the expense of your core fan base.

I can't really see who's going to buy these new Call of Evil games. COD fans have COD and SH fans won't be interested.

    I agree.

Before 4 was released I had beaten every RE game I played. The stupid timed button presses trying to evade the huge statue chasing you, do me in every time I try.

Once the zombies left RE games, so did my interest in the series.

Resident Evil died a long time ago, for me at least. Can't wait till this laughable heap of crap finally bites the dust.

I don't think the controls were the best part of the game, but they were necessary given the fixed camera angles. And the fixed camera angles were really cool, I think. It gave the games a cinematic feel.

the controls were basically based on the first 3 Alone In The dark games. Which were the first(if we are talking "3D") "survival "horror games".

Yeah RE4 still puts a scare in me, the only reason why I have never completed the game. Is when you have to protect the presidents daughter, and suddenly you are fighting. And trying NOT to hit the daughter with a bullet or two.

RIP:Tank controls. You will be missed.

Being a tank is one of the defining things of Resident Evil. It's one of those things that can make you feel truly helpless and near terrified when shit goes wrong while playing.
And if you think otherwise, STFU and stop playing RE then. It's probably because all the people bitching about the Tank that they are going to make it so you can run and shoot and all that other Generic TPS stuff now in subsequent RE games.

Still,I've yet to be disappointed by a Main RE game(each one has something appealing about it. My personal favorites are Code Veronica and 5 though). I hope it doesn't change.

The original control of the first 3 was a part of what defined a RE game to me. Mastering the control was part of the challenge.

If people can't master the original controls they they fail as gamers, it's not like it was difficult LOL. The biohazard series is officially dead to me now i stopped caring after 4 as the series is now just dire, i liked it back when it was more about adventure & exploring, trying to make sense of what had happened. Nowdays it's just a shooting game that has zombies in it.

    Play something else then.

Attitudes like that is why it's probably going more action oriented. Without the Tank. Resident Evil doesn't play like Resident Evil. It plays like every other game out there.

Thanks for ruining it for everyone who enjoys it for it's unique qualities!

Might as well change the title from Resident Evil , to Gears of Evil. (Irony intended)

Wow ... I never expected people's views to be so polarized over this! :hororr:

For me it was a combination of fixed camera angles and the control scheme that gave the original Resident Evil titles that cinematic tension rarely found in videogames ... even the 'tank' controls had evolved to a point that granted the player the ability to walk & shoot or '180 spin' by Outbreak: File 2

I just find it hard to swallow comments that the 'survival horror' market isn't large enough for, of all things, Resident Evil, a series that has pretty much been the face of 'survival horror' since the late 90's. :topsy_turvy:
