4 was kinda cool, but I'm not a fan of quick time events. I hated 5 and thought it sucked royally. I've never played the first 3, but should I play the GC versions or PS1?

This comment by Capcom is hilarious if you think about all the Zombie related games being released these days. Even FPS games have "zombie" modes. So all they are saying is that they are going to be just like everybody else.

That's the actual problem. Game companies these days are too afraid of making something different / new. And when they do it and the final result isn't profitable, they blame low sales and the used game "issue", instead of bad marketing, time of release, pricing or even the product wasn't that great after all.

Plus we had our share of "game floods" the past few years. Skate games, GTA clones, MGS clones, Street racing games, Music games, Modern Combat fps, Zombie games... Some companies just seen to wait for the latest hyped game style to start making their own versions.

I don't know if the Resident Evil series is a high seller these days. I know got RE5 Gold Edition for cheap and don't remember playing it for more than a week before i got bored. Bad controls or not, IMO, the only games of the Resident Evil series that were important were RE, RE2, RE3 and RE:CV. Don't get me wrong, i really enjoyed RE4 but i never felt it was related to the first games.

I had such a great time playing RE, RE2 and RE3 back on the PS1 days. We can all say the game experience probaby didn't aged well because of the graphics, controls or any other issues someone might point out, but back then they were amazing games. And that's why they are remembered.

For the first game definately GC remake as it's awesome, they improved everything including that god awful cheesy dialogue that the ps1 version had. Some love it but i hated it back then & i still do even now lol.

As for 2 & 3 they are pretty much the same across gc & ps1 however gc will have a bit faster loading times, go for whichever is cheaper.

I think Capcom could please a lot of fans if they released this...

I never had a problem with the old tank controls of old but I admit they did need a revamp. Maybe not as drastic as what we ended up with but at least something, I never understood why they didn't do something more like the Devil May Cry controls with more fluidity as the series went on. That said, I do think though it was more the change in the atmosphere of the series than the change of controls which threw off the series.

I also think they screwed the pooch on the story as well. They spend all this time setting up the back story throughout the games getting players invested and what do they do? The final battle with the corporation you've been fighting is played out on a rail shooter and the antagonist that really set everything in motion... The one that they have been dropping hints about since the first game... Is finally revealed as a typical clichéd villain and treated as an afterthought at that. Talk about a let down.

Same works for Limbo, Rayman Origins, Journey and some others. They are the exception, sadly.

Play controls weren't my concern at all. What happened to the voice acting? Seriously, the first was great! Sounded like a horrible B-rate horror flick and really made the game.

Personally, I would have made it even stricter timed-action, akin to the old Don Bluth laserdisk games.

It sounds a lot like Capcom wants House of the Dead minus the rails. That's the whole problem though is that marketing is overthinking themselves. We can make more money by cranking out another derivative 3rd person shooter within that span of time doesn't just bode long-term failure but a general failure of the way studios and distributors should function.

Depends. The GC versions played better, and look GREAT. They redubbed it too. The PSone versions have horibble acting... Play whichever version you can find really.

What about the hated Outbreak? I though I read somewhere that they got the Panzer controls fixed on it.

I have a off topic question (sorta). Does the new RE for the 3DS have that memory lock thing, so you can trade it in?

Thank you. I don't care what anyone says, that is what makes Resident Evil for me, Static Camera's and controls that stay true no matter what angle you view your player from. Know why it was good?

It created a sense of isolation and panic whenever a zombie or giant enemy is approaching right in front of you! Sometimes you will be holding just backwards, slowing watching your character backup until they trigger another camera change, maybe to a position where you can see only your stars hero, and as you back up more you start to see more and more of the creature that is coming for you, and it's gaining fast! You try to do the quick turn 180, but no! It lunges for you and starts feasting on your neck last second!

Scenes like that, even if they don't put fear into you, they definitely get you pumped up and excited to escape/destroy the monster. Nowadays in RE4 or RE5, that feeling has vanished. I feel no sense of excitement when getting attacked by an enemy as they feel like generic targets of any shooter. Running away from enemies is less exciting since you can no longer see them coming for you. (unless backing up, but even then it doesn't carry over the same effect from previous games.) Another small complaint.... HUD? Albeit, it is small and not as eye grabbing as other HUD's. but it definitely kills another feeling that the RE series created inside of me. Also, I never felt a lack of ammunition in 4, as I did with the others (Which is actually a good thing...) (could be wrong on that as I haven't play 4 in awhile)

Action sequence button presses, the fact they aren't really "zombies", forcing you to protect an AI teammate for what seems like more occasions then necessary, the fact you play as Leon (Most uninteresting main character out of the lot that were spawned by the first 3 games), and people praised it as one of the best RE's to exist...... Always just boggled my mind. I thought all the RE fans were gunna have my back with how much they train wrecked RE by taking it down that path, but I was mistaken.

As I have said, many many times on these forums. RE 4 in itself is a good game. Comparing it with the RE series (Which one is forced to do... it being Resident Evil and all), it is a giant piece of waste. Creates none of the same emotions, ruins the true thrill of survival, and fucks with any true true fan of RE's core game play style.

Take out any RE references and it would make a great 3rd person shooter game. Same with 5.

The controls of the first 3 REs were limited by the prerendered levels with locked perspective

Today some people bitch because they cant run at 60fps with 1080p but back then hardware was so limited you couldnt do some stuff at all, and real-time 3D levels were one of them

Anyways, survival horror is not small, see DeadSpace

Tanks controls rocked, that was how it was to be played it's a part of the game. Just like the door loading screens that they kept even though they didn't need them later on. You knew what you were getting with the RE series

RE:Remake was AWESOME on the NGC, freaking crimson heads, the first time you notice that body that's always there is GONE ! Man that gave me chills.

Not really a fan of RE:4-5, not that they are bad games but they just don't have that same flavor.

Survival horror small? Seriously, zombies are in. Look at how many popular games are even getting zombie survival mods.

At least they didn't totally sell out. Could you imagine a RE6 with some creeper-yet-apparently-hot vamp that seduces every character he so much as looks at Zap Branagon style? As the lead selling point? I swear, they'd be firebombed in a week if they put in some filthy Claire striptease for some Eddie ripoff.

Hmm... in Capcom's defense, RE: Revelations was actually pretty good and did a nice job of blending the "old school" and the "new school" into something good, and this is coming from someone who loathes 4 and 5 (but loved 1, 2, 3, RE:CV).

Whether or not that was a one time deal remains to be seen however...

Having zombies in the game doesn't necessarily means its a survival game. Zombies are fun and popular now, that's all. But I dont know any modern survival game with zombies. Dead Rising? Dead Island? Red Dead Redemption Zombies? Call Of Duty Zombies? It's just funny, they are not survivals)

Survival horror you say? Fatal Frame/Project Zero series is where it's at, then again about controls it doesn't get the reward either.

The whole point for horror games is to move slowly even people in movies walk/run slow when something is out to get them... It's just the theme. :/
