What? The second RE movie is honestly one of the worst movies I've ever seen, it's has all the directorial flair of a pantomime and it's cringe-inducingly embarrassing in places. The third wasn't much better. The first one is the only one that I enjoy, and I wouldn't say it's a great movie by any stretch. Silent Hill is pretty dire too. The only truly enjoyable VG-based movie I can think of is Mortal Kombat, and that's only because the cheese factor is so high.
The first RE movie is the decent, but the best thing about it is the end and Marilyn Manson's music. RE:2 was only worth it because of Sienna Guilory as Jill. RE:3 was terrible. The whole plot is not only unbelieavable, it's just plain stupidity. A girl named K-Mart?! Isn't that the most ridiculous product placement EVER!? Mike Epps character was already annoying in the 2nd, here it's more cliche than before. "Oh, i have been bitten, i won't tell anyone". One question i liked on imdb: Who's job was it to put the jumpsuits on the zombies?
I really like the first 2 RE movies, but the 3rd was utter shit. at least the first and second felt "connected" to the games, but they threw that right out the door with the 3rd one.
Whaaat?? Mortal Kombat was dire! Next you'll be telling me you liked Street Fighter! Resident Evil was good. The second one was OK. The third - eh. Alright, but I got bored half way through. I liked Silent Hill! Some great stuff in that. Methinks your list might be lacking a few films. The Tomb Raiders weren't too bad. Advent Children, if you count that, is great. Hitman was good - possibly my favourite video game movie.
As far as cheesy martial arts movies go, it was par for the course. Enjoyable trash. I haven't actually seen the Van Damme Street Fighter, but I've been assured by just about everyone else that it's terrible, and not in a so-bad-it's-good way. I think I had unreasonable expectations for it, because folk on another forum whose opinions I generally trust had talked about it like it was genuinely great, and surreal - someone had referred to it as being like a David Lynch movie. It's not of that calibre at all, and the all characters are either dull or detestable. It's not a terrible movie but not a classic either. And where did I say that my list was complete? Oh my. Haven't seen it yet, but you're not the first to say it's decent. I'll keep an eye out for it.
Let me put it this way... Honda looks hawaiian, Chun-li doesn't look young, Balrog is a "good guy", Sagat has the same height as Ryu, They mixed Charlie / Blanka story, Cammy is Guile's assistant, Dhalsim looks like "Monk",... Zangief is the only guy they tried to recreate decently. PS: The game for PS1/SAT is better than the arcade one. Just try the arcade version on MAME and be ready to laugh.
Really?? I dont remember the console versions being any different than the arcade. Can you recall what any of the differences were, or were they all minor, insignificant stuff?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_Fighter_(film) Two video games based on the film were produced. The first was a coin-operated arcade game titled Street Fighter: The Movie, produced by American developer Incredible Technologies and distributed by Capcom. The second was a home video game developed by Capcom also titled Street Fighter: The Movie, released for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn. Despite sharing the same title, neither game is a port of the other, although they both used the same digitized footage of the film's cast posing as the characters in each game. Many plot elements of the film, such as Blanka's identity and Dhalsim's role as a scientist, were reused in the American-produced 1995 Street Fighter animated series which combined story aspects of this movie with those in the games. - Arcade Version http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_Fighter:_The_Movie_(arcade_game) - PS1/SAT Version http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_Fighter:_The_Movie_(home_video_game)
The only video game movie I wouldn't classify as a HORRIBLE ABOMINATION was Max Payne, and even then it was not really that good at all. No one is capable of doing it right. Hollywood just needs to stop trying.
Thanks for the info Johnny, its been a few years ( more like 10+ :icon_bigg) since ive played either, so i kinda forgot that they were different games. Which would you say is the better version, arcade or console? ( just curious)
I think the console versions are better, although i only played / own the PS1 version. The animation on the arcade is terrible (the console version is not great either, but it's better). Try the arcade on MAME, it's a good laugh.
Don't, unless you want to torture yourself. It's better than a Uwe Boll film... just. There was one bit where, if memory serves, there was a bomb in the building. The crew were watching on a CCTV monitor. The timer was low. One particularly dense member of the team shouted, "Quick! Change the channel!" Maybe you're comparing it to the game too much? It was lacking in that respect, although it did have a reasonable grasp of the atmosphere. The effects were very good, the storyline wasn't bad and there were some good scenes. No classic, sure, but not "pretty dire" as you said. 6.5 out of 10 on IMDB, which is a reasonable rating. Anything over 6 should be good, you'll usually find. Um, here: I meant your list of good movies! Incidentally, MK got only 5.3 on IMDB. HOW can you say MK was "enjoyable", and then not agree that the Tomb Raiders "weren't too bad"??? I wasn't saying they were great, but watchable. You have a poor taste in movies, sir! Incidentally, they got 5.3 and 5.2 - same as MK, basically. Do that. Very good film. It's a fiver on Play, by the way ;-) You're joking, right? That was probably the WORST game on the Saturn, at least in the UK! It looked awful, jerky and the controls were sluggish. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UX4YX1Mk5YQ Skip the first 2 mins of crap and get straight to the game ;-)
retro, i think you didn't understood me. I never said it was a good game, but it's better than the arcade version. Get MAME and see for yourself. Prepare to laugh. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PV6TfJ3rvRI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIXRL_SEGPw As for the Saturn version, i never played. What i know is that the PS1 version has better animation (or less worse) than the arcade one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4UdQVYkCZg
I don't give a fuck about imdb ratings, to be honest. The effects in Silent Hill were great but the characters made me yawn. Completely two-dimensional, and cardboard acting. Like I say, I think I was expecting more of a surreal cult-classic movie and that's certainly my fault more than the movie itself. Regardless, I'd stand by "pretty dire", it's just not a good movie. It only stands out as watchable among other video game adaptations that manage to be worse. There's this odd thing, it's called subjectivity of taste. I found the Tomb Raider movies embarrassing. I find Mortal Kombat funny as fuck. Ho hum.
I agree with Alchy. The first Mortal Kombat had some classic lines and the movie itself is super cornball and pretty funny. Just watch the Johnny Cage intro. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVjbIwI40AM "This is where you fall down." LOL Did you catch his totally awesome sweep kick?? xD
I'm another who thought the Tomb Raider moves were pathetic. The only redeeming feature was seeing Chris Barry in them and even that wasn't so great. yakumo
