The problem here is that there is no answer. The police have to do thier job in order to protect people, but people need to know that thier rights are being protected. In a perfect world, the guy would have stopped, the cops would have checked him out, and everything would be cool. But we aren't living in a perfect world, the guy ran and the cops opened fire. Both the victim and the police thought they were doing the right thing. This is exactly the kind of sociatal breakdown the terrorists want to occur.
Everysingle report ive seen seems to be missing the point that they had plenty of time to stop the suspect before he got close to the tube station! At which point he did a runner and managed to get into the train! What if he had a bomb?! Why was he allowed to walk around the area before being stoped... Then when he was finaly in the tube in a train they decided he should be shot. Had they stoped him on the street maybe he wouldnt of been shot. Is everyone missing the fact had it been someone with a bomb all they could of needed to do was press a button or pull a cord.... if they give them time to walk around town or jump on a train what the point.
It's happening in NYC as well, sharp shooters aimed at tourists' heads who were suspected to carry bags that were 'too heavily loaded' and could have contained bombs... And five shots seem like an awfull lot, couldn't they have fired at his legs or something? Even if it was a terrorist, wouldn't they wanted the information they could've gotten from him?
If a man has a potental gun and armed cops tell him to put it down and he dosent he gets shot. No-one bats an eyelid as its standard practace. Replace potenal gun with potental bomb and he gets shot people scream murder. Tell you what, next time theres a bomber and your famly gets hurt/killed because a cop wasnt allowed to shoot him or he hesitated dont dare complain that the cop was lacking. Your effectivly tied one hand behind the police forces back.
You seem to be confused. He wasnt on a bus. All they had to go on is a man with a jacket walking out of a block of flats (apartment). He walked on the street, there was plenty of time to stop him before he managed to run into the station. They have totaly failed in everyway in this incident. Had he been a bomber as you keep saying he had plenty of time to kill people. On the street, jumping on a bus, in the station where there are alot of people going in and out of barriers, in a lift where there can be 10+ people, and finaly in the train! They gave him plenty of chance instead of stoping him while he was next to the staion, a much worse place then a street as i just pointed out.
This mentality is a victory for terrorism. Now, terrorized citizens and terrorized officers will all fear each other - and everyone sitting next to you or walking close to you is a "what if". Death is irreversible - and I think the killing of an innocent person means there NEEDS to be a change in the strategy to protect the people - not just react to suspects.
I stand corrected.... Am i right in thinking they thought he had a bomb and they let him on a bus?!?! http://www.guardian.co.uk/attackonlondon/story/0,16132,1535565,00.html
The thing is guys is that the particulars of the case don't matter. It doesn't matter what exactly this guy did to make the cops shoot him. What does matter is that the cops shot first and asked questions later, becasue of fear. Oh yes, we here in America know all about fear. We've been living with it for the past four years. Becasue everybody knows that it's only a matter of time before there's another terrorist attack. Right now the big deal is that there might be suitcase nukes hidden inside of the big cities (which is bullshit.) What you have to realise is that this culture of fear that develops after things like this is just another form of escapism, things that people do when they feel powerless, and feelings others encourage to hold onto thier power or make a qucik buck. Go into any book store in the United States and check out the "War" section. It's all about terrorism now, and suddenly everyone is a goddamned expert. The politicans tell us to buck up and take it when they pass laws that take away our rights then invade countries that have nothing to do with terrorism. Then all you hear on the TV is how we're "fighting for freedom" after they take away just a little bit more. It's bullshit. But that's what happens when your nation gives into fear, when really you have nothing to be afraid of. So what if a bomb goes off and I die, I could get killed tomorrow by food poisioning or a car accident, yet we aren't delcaring war on those things. We ain't declaring war on AIDS, or cancer, or the west nile virus. A piece of the Space station could fall out of the sky and land on my house this very instant and kill me, yet I'm not afraid of that. The truth is at any given moment you are at risk of death from a lot of things, yet you don't live in fear from them. It's called hysteria, that's why those cops shot that guy. That's why after 911 people went out and beat up middle easteners. That's why Arabs (and people who look like Arabs) get harrassed at airports. That's why my country invaded Iraq, Becasue of fear. So yes, I'm carful and keep an eye open for funny shit going on, but I don't live in fear.
