Until PAR came out, there was no consumer stick that was considered good enough by competitive players... fighter or shooter. Assume you're going to have to mod anything that doesn't have Sanwa or Seimitsu in it.
I have a HSS-0130, and while the unit is a sight to behold, the buttons don't feel all that great. The sticks are fine. I can live with them without modding them, but the buttons could use a swap out. I have no idea how easy/hard it is to mod the HSS-0130. I was never going to have the room for a full arcade cab. So the HSS-0130 was the next best thing
Yeah...sorry about that. Graciano1337 was living with my GF at the time, and would use her arcade stick with Sanwa parts and I'd bring over my customs stick (with sanwa parts) The Sega virtua stick is MUCH mushier than sanwa buttons. Not like "senseitive so you don't need snap like american buttons" but mushy like "Is this registering? are these buttons play-doh?"
@OP That image of the fighting stick SS in the original post is actually one I customised with sanwa buttons and a JLF. It works pretty well, but due to space limitations in the thin case, the joystick shaft is slightly taller than normal and while it plays very well, It's not as accurate as one that's properly mounted. I still have that stick sitting at my house. What I ended up doing when one of my dreamcast Agetec sticks died, was doing a full sanwa mod on that with a JLF and snawa buttons, with the stick "properly" mounted. I replaced the DC PCB with one from a "fat" original saturn controller. I find this far more suitable for shmups than the modded fighting stick SS, plus I have a SS > DC adaptor anyway. http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=5305 is my tutorial for the fighting stick SS mod. The stock buttons are garbage.
