DS... stunning... hmm.. it doesn't have superb graphics, it's the gameplay.. but I'd say right now for the "oooh" factor it would be I guess the new castlevania game.

The upcoming biohazard game seems to have the "ooh" factor on lock.

The Castlevania game has both ooh and aah. Very fun if you like those games (a bit short) but the graphics are yummy 2D goodness.

Lost in Blue has good graphics. I don't know if that is the american game or not. Some screens have graphics that look almost on par with a shitty psp game :)

mario 64 ds is impressive, live on hardware anyway.

    Off-topic, i liked the mario 64x4 name better :(

    it seemed more strange..

If you can wait, Mario Kart DS.

  8. Nanostray is, in my opinion, the most graphically impressive game on the DS right now.

But if you're buying a system for the 'Wow' graphics factor, just save a DS and buy the PSP instead. You play the DS for the games and all the little quirks they have with the touchscreen and whatnot, not because it has the most amazing graphics ever, because let's face it - most DS titles have the graphical sophistication of last-gen N64 games with a good bit more polish and a lot less blurriness. I personally love the graphics on the DS, but your question sounded like that was an issue.

If the friend isn't the shallow, "Graphics make the game" type, then try getting them Kirby's Canvas Curse, Meteos, Advance Wars DS, Nanostray, or Feel The Magic. The games have enough engaging gameplay and over-the-top charm to surely make up for the DS' graphical style.

    Wario Ware Touched is excellent. The gameplay is fun, and the stylish 2D graphics are great. But then again, I'm a sucker for Wario Ware. ^_^;;

I'll agree SM64x4 is good too. Get them to play the Metroid Prime Hunters Demo as well.

  13. Good point - the Hunters demo has a good bit of 'wow' factor to it, but it seems like it's getting tougher to find - I know Gamestop and EB Games won't resell it unless it came inside a trade-in DS unit.

And Mario 64DS is pretty cool as well - my problem was that at the end of the day, it was still just Mario 64, only I could take it into the bathroom with me. But with Yoshi - ugh.

And although I'm not all the way through it yet, I can wholeheartedly recommend Trace Memory - it's like a classic Lucasarts or Sierra game of yesteryear on the DS!

Here's another vote for Nanostray being the most graphically impressive DS game (for now).

Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow gets my vote. Yeah, most people will be like "but its just 2D". Just 2D? JUST 2D? Man, this game is sweet. The combination of 2D gameplay and enviroments with the 3D backgrounds looks awesome.

It is the first DS game I've seriously bought since I got Mario64 at launch.

You just convinced me to buy a DS.

Is it just me, or does the new Castlevania game look just like the old ones on the GBA? I haven't seen the game in action, but the screenshots I saw were not impressive.

You see, at first I thought the same...but when you get into it it is graphically closer to SotN rather than any of the GBA titles, so much so that the game actually uses sprites from SotN in some cases.

It's developed by Konami, very good survival-style game.
