Really?! Fine that's one game! well actually it's because of Konami's fault! who've made it completely shitty over your jizzware Nes! And FYI yeah i did quite enjoyed Contra on MSX despite your Famous "scroll effects" but does it actually matter if it has none or some? Goes to show you can't play a game without scrolling & again your Nes is still retarded and no this thread isn't dumb! Learn to appreciate other system before you start shitting on them? But you can't because Nes was your only system & think every single thing Nintendo makes or does is Perfect!! special effects doesn't always make a product great! P.S Can a game like "The Golf" be made as good as that?! and besides If you disagree with this thread, simple DON't Post at all! Also Yes the MSX/2 CAN be considered a gaming machine & NOT just a computer, don't believe me?! Don't take my word for it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN7lMF6wwvY&feature=share&list=FLnrRDzWlFFadiUvytFfLJ so. Again! this thread ISN'T retarded as much you wanted it to be.
>"who've made it completely shitty over your jizzware Nes!" So right off the bat I know I'm in for a treat of insightful and rational arguments, made evident in this passage by the use of industry-standard terms like "shitty" and "jizzware". >"FYI yeah i did quite enjoyed Contra on MSX despite your Famous "scroll effects" but does it actually matter if it has none or some?" >"special effects doesn't always make a product great!" Here is a major topic that begs for more attention in retro video game journalism: that superfluous special effect of scrolling. In my personal experience, NES developers were too busy trying to take advantage of then-new hardware, and thus I feel there was an disproportionate focus from big-name developers on making games flow smoothly and minimizing unfair penalties deriving from being unable to anticipate impending obstacles from the upcoming screen before said obstacle even appears. >"Learn to appreciate other system before you start shitting on them?" I used to play libraries of consoles only to find I didn't like the console or library as a whole in the long run. However, I shall eschew these blind, hateful tendencies: next time I'm thinking about posting a criticism of a games console that has negatively impacted me, first I'll make sure I enjoy the system before I say anything negative concerning it. >"But you can't because Nes was your only system & think every single thing Nintendo makes or does is Perfect!!" Of special note is this segment: Dswizzy is employing an unconventional and risky argument to support his enjoyment of the MSX2. Instead of addressing what Calpis has criticized about the MSX2 hardware, Dswizzy has made baseless assumptions about the character of Calpis himself, cutting out the middle man and getting right to the heart of the debate.
I have to admit that i'd kinda went overboard with the whole hating on Nintendo and not giving it much a chance & i'm sorry okay. And i apologise to Capris for directly attacking his criticism over the console & i this was tended to be on a more opinion debate like a regular console war sorta thing, be to say to my face that my thread was retarded outta the blue while everyone else was pretty fine with it at first tell that happened just hours ago. Though tell you what, as a matter of fact i actually do love the Famicom but the USA Nes i still sorta dislike (In my opinion) no offence to those who grew up with it or such. My problem for my behavior is against the thousand of Fanboys that craps on other systems before it or during it's lifespan/era next to the Nes! again I didn't mean to offend to anyone (except for that recent comment) so now can we all get back to normal here and continue without the whole hardware specs on this & that please? Thank You!
My point was that "as a game", the NES version of Contra is far more enjoyable than the MSX version I saw. I'm not discounting the MSX or "hating" it. I don't think anyone was engaging in any sort of fanboy behavior against the MSX. You were raving against the NES though. This forum isn't really the kind that has "console war" debates like a 90s schoolyard. Many members here know far too much about the systems for that. Usually a debate about say SNES versus the Genesis is going to involve alot of technical details and examples. Not just random uninformed opinions from people with a bias to one contender.
That's true, i did sorta blantly missed the point there though as this thread could go into detail & in such manner but what really got me ticked off as to call my post retarded and stuff without saying so in a polite or professional tone but instead all i got was backlash. If it hadn't happened i'd would've let it slide easily and no problems would not have aroused. And like you & others have said, everyone can be entitled to they're own opinions as such but to talk smack in a unprofessional way someone would take that note seriously and called them out, though at the end it's whatever doesn't matter to me as so anymore.
you're seriously not comparing THIS version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nts0EZausyw with THIS version right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxO7RmAI2vY Don't get me wrong, it works - but it's no contest.
Lmao! fine, fine! xD yeah but your seriously gonna compare a MSX1 made game over a Nes game? that's like comparing against Atari or Commondore 64 to the NES! so of course it'll been terrible lol. Why not any MSX2 over it instead? also not EVERY MSX game looks just like MSX's version of Gun.Smoke imho!
Then i've must've been confuse with a Sega Master System version (If it had one) i was basically in a rush & actually hadn't went fully researched onto it but more sorta skimmed through a few but i'mma gonna come full force once i grab a few! You guys will be in for a surprise and then well see if Nes can handle the heat (which i highly doubt)
But........ Color a Dinosaur sucks so.... no competition there really & plus MSX2 doesn't need crappy edutainment games to satisfy us in the longrun so... yeah.
You're just arguing for the sake of arguing. You're pulling random things out of nowhere. And worse of all, you're very rude about it when people don't share your opinion. I love my MSX2 but most games that were for it and the NES, the NES simply did better. I'm not saying hardware wise the NES was better, but the end result that was output by software companies was better. All the Konami Gradius games were better on Famicom. Scrolling is a BIG deal. Contra becomes an entirely different game for example. It will literally completely change how a game plays. Another example is Vampire Killer vs Castlevania. While Vampire Killer is GOOD, it is a totally different game because it could not perform the same. The MSX2 COULD do NES level scrolling, but it usually wasn't the case. And we're not talking IF all those games had smoother scrolling - we're talking about the end result. And the end result is most of them don't. I'm not arguing anymore in this thread, I'm giving feedback from a neutral perspective that has both with a large collection of games and have spent a lot of time with both units. you're blatantly favored towards the MSX.
How the Hell am i pulling things randomly?! it's the truth! Look i know that you know & we both know you love Nintendo to an extinct as much as the next thousandth guy but seriously tell me, how much great quality software MSX has here: http://www.generation-msx.nl/software/topvotedlist plus the fact the only thing your gonna pull outta your behind is only just "Contra", "Castlevania" (even though Vampire Killer is better imho) the usual generic "Super Mario 1-3" "Zelda" let me guess, "Metroid" & "Kirby" right?! the so on so-called Golden Hall of Fame endless, timeless classics of all time! If you can name me other titles not already mentioned above, i'll let it slide! if not, then it definitely goes to show you favor NES over any tech system of that time period!! And yes scrolling was a big of a deal to you because "Nintendo" showed people the light that special effects were SUPER important when making ANY genre'd game so if that's the case then Every slow paced Murder Mystery adventure game should no doubt
have super silky smooth scrolling every scene! Including games that were MEAN'T to be slow & Not fast.
How is scrolling a special effect? It's not...it's literally a part of gaming. Even fighting games need scrolling or else they're limited to a single plane like Yi-ar Kung Fu. Some games don't need scrolling, metal gear is one. Some DO or else it will literally change how a game is played. There's a reason the levels in MSX Contra and vampire killer are different - the game is NOT the same without scrolling so the style had to be modified. How are you pulling random examples? You brought up Gun Smoke without even researching it. It was a HORRIBLE conversion in comparison to the NES version. I'm done. Quite frankly, you're trolling.
Alright, if you disagree then dueces! like okay, And...? And yet both Metal Gear 1 & 2 MSX2 versions were favored alot by a lot of fans! and yet that game didn't needed scrolling cuz it obviously wasn't necessary! lol so again if you didn't like my thread don't bother posting so that way you can keep your vains intact and wouldn't have to burst. okay good
