:smt043 Man. Israel isn't that stupid, however, give a nuke to Jordan or Syria then Israel will cease to exist so if such a country does use a nuke on israel then they have the choice on using one too.

Well considering what that the US always likes to keep their stuff secret till it's almost obsolete, do you really think they would tell you if they had something of that magnitude in place?

All I'm saying is do you think they would really be throwing their weight around so much these days if they could be taken out so easily?

Just saw the news, apparently NK officials stated that the mushroom cloud was caused by blowing up part of a mountain to make way for a hydro-electric power plant...

I doubt it was a nuke. It was too close to China and I seriously doubt North Korea would piss off it's last friend by sending fallout across the border. As for the continental US being a target it is possible but not practical at this point. North Korea might be able to hit part of Aleutians but why would they waste a nuke on something insignificant knowing what the consequences would be? If they use a nuke it's going to be Seoul or Tokyo that burns.

Oh and on the off chance that the western US did get nuked Evangelion-01 what makes you think that we wouldn't be moving to Mexico and you to Guatemala?

That mountain story is total B.S. To get an explosion of that size you'd need like 100,000 pounds of explosives, way too costly just for a building project. I think it's safe to assume that this is just the cover stroy for an underground Nuclear test.

Metal, I would really love it if there was some sort of nuclear defense shield, but unless there's some kind of super top secret orbiting laser that was back engineered from crashed Roswell alien technology I sincerly doubt it.

You have an ICBM which can travel anywhere in the world in about 30 minutes. The actual missile only moves at about 25000 mph(which is needed to break Earth's orbit) But you have to understand that it's not how fast the missile travels in mph, it's the fact that the missile takes advantage of traveling in the opposite direction of the rotation of the Earth to cover distances a lot faster. The orbiting space shuttle covers about 1700 miles of the Earth's surface per minute.

You have less than 30 minutes to identify, track, and shoot down the ICBM. There have been some successful tests in nailing the targets in their first launching phase (as in they're still going up to break Earth's orbit, before they attain top speed) but comming down, forget it. What's the rate an object falls at? Something like 8.25 feet per second. Like I said, it's like hitting a bullet with another bullet- nearly impossible.

There have been tests with lazers that show promise, as in a laser which is totally under automatic control can hit a missile which is re-entering the atmosphere. But this ain't star trek yet- the most powerful laser on earth can only dilver the equivalent of a 60 lb. charge- and those are the lasers which take up a whole building. Plus, they have to shine on the target for a few minutes before they get hot enough (essentially "melting" the target, not vaporizing it or causing it to explode.)

Our president has commited another 100 billion dollars to Star Wars over the next ten years (which is called something else now, like "Homeland missile Defense shield" or something else equally Orwellian.) I would be down for it if the technology could be proven to work, which it hasn't been yet.

You've got to think what exactly that would mean to have a working missile defense shield, it's not like all the other nuclear powers in the world would just give up and throw thier nukes away. It would casue them to try to develop a countermeasue to the shield, which wouldn't be that hard (say like sending up dummy warheads, or "flack," little peices of tin foil that screws up radar, or just launching a shitload of missiles to overwhealm it.) Any way you look at it, it leads to a new nuclear arms race, which is good news for the defense contractors, bad news for every other living thing in the world.

Even if we take the best case secnario- which IMO is we convince all the madmen in the world to decomission these nuclear weapons (like that'll ever happen) the disposal of such weapons is going to be a costly pain in the ass. One pound of plutonium is enough to give cancer to every living thing on the face of the earth. It's not like you can just seal it in a drum and dump it in the ocean (which is what the british government did in the 1960's over the Atlantic deep sea trench, luckily Plutonium is more viscous than water and will most likely just float around the bottom until it decays, which will be in... oh.... 3.5 billion years.)

The fact is we're in trouble, if they don't blow up the earth all the toxic waste from these weapons is going to kill us. Only one thing to do- invent a time machine, go back in time, and KILL Albert Enstien before he comes up with the thoery of relativity. Stop nukes from ever being invented.

Or else vote, get involved, blah blah blah. But who has time for that shit.
