I really like the first one! And those. XIII I just thought was really generic and boring. I guess it isn't all bad. The newest one has 2 good/great songs at the begining...and then crap. What pissed me off is that the CD is a pentagram...yeah, that fits Mushroomhead.

    Metal Music Recommendations:

    Unexpect: http://www.myspace.com/unexpect
Ecclectic blend of black, death, core, symphonic, progressive and melodic metal; classical, operatic, medieval, goth, electro, ambient, psychotic, noise and circus music with an occasional jazzy touch. Very original and spastic music. Great live show, best I've seen in a while!

    Spektr: http://www.myspace.com/spektr
Bitter, caustic, and cold black metal with elements of atmospheric noise music. Each CD kind of has to be listened to all at once, since most songs blend into eachother. Imagine if a black metal concert turned into Silent Hill and that's sort of what the music sounds like. You'll probably only like it if you're grim and trve or into noise music.

Band that started back in the late eighties/early nineties, released one album in '92, broke up, reformed, and released another album in '08. These two albums are pretty different.

Their first CD, Focus, is a perfect fusion of jazz and death metal. It's surprisingly dreamy and subtle for death metal, using vecoded clean vocals and frequent jazz breaks. And the technicality of the songwriting is staggering. These guys are amazing and they aren't afraid to show it.

Their second album is, in my opinion, not as good. It's not really metal anymore, so maybe it appeals to the greater audience. It's like a technically inclined progressive rock/metal album.

    Martyr: http://www.myspace.com/martyrcanada
Amazing death metal in vain of the great band Death. Very technical, occassionally jazzy, progressive death metal with intricate songwriting. Definately in my top 5 favorite bands.

    Withered: http://www.myspace.com/withered
Very epic and mildly melodic blackened death metal. For new guys, they have pretty sound songwriting and a destinctive style. I highly reccomend to anyone who is a fan of extreme metal.

    Indricothere: http://www.myspace.com/indricothere
Experimental blackened thrash. All instrumental, too. It's Colin from Behold... the Arctopus' solo project. Pretty original metal music that dwelves into aspects of technical metal, black and death metal, thrash, noise, and prog. If you're into odd song structures, you'll like this.

    Non-Metal Music Reccomendations:

    Secret Cheifs 3: http://www.myspace.com/secretchiefs3
Multi-Genre Experimental group. It's basically Trey Spruance from Mr. Bungle with a ton of session musicians creating music that very accurately blends various music genres. Pretty interesting stuff.

    Sleepytime Gorrilla Museum: http://www.myspace.com/sleepytimegorillamuseum
You know, I really don't know how to describe these guys. It's just very odd, dark music that is rather genreless. They have a destinct sound, but I really don't know the genre. Just go listen to their myspace if you're interested in strange or original music.

I am likely to post more in the future.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: That post made me chuckle. WTF does a pentagram have to do with Mushroomhead??? I think it was a ploy by their record label to attempt to make them look a little more "badass". you are right though, the new cd starts off with a couple of decent songs, and then just turns into utter garbage after that. I also want to thank everyone who posted recommendations, ive checked a few out and have found a couple bands in this thread that are amazing.

When I want something new, I go to Amazon, pick an album I liked, then follow the bread crumb trail through a couple of ones other people bought and select a 5 star. My only stipulation is that it must be by an artist I do not yet have in my collection.

In the end you find a huge number of great albums you may otherwise not have chosen.

You could also be more random about it and look for best sellers in a particular genre, then radiate out from there.

That also works well sometimes on YouTube when you follow the related videos.
