Well, my name has finally been added to one of the many who's Xbox has succumbed to the affectionately named "Red Ring of Death". According to my UPS tracking number, the shipment should arrive at the repair facility sometime Wednesday. Does anyone know how long it might take to receive my Xbox back? I'm aware that times may vary. I'm just curious as when to reasonably expect it. Also, will I be receiving a refurbished system or a brand new one or might they just repair it? P.S. I'm not even sure why I've made this post. Maybe I just feel bad that I'll be without my system for an extended period of time. Its not really meant to accomplish much besides inquiring about a couple of things. Maybe those that have had similar problems would emphathize with me...
Depends how far you are from Ontario\Texas. I'm in BC and it took about 5 buisiness days to go from me to the repair center and back again. So expect to wait around 2-3 weeks.
took only about a week. They sent me a brand spanking new system. Also you'll have to redownload all your XBLA games again to lock them to your new system.
How do you lock XBLA games to a new system? I thought you had to be online if you downloaded them again to a new system? At any rate, oddly enough, I still haven't seen the red ring of death. I had my launch Xbox360 up until the Halo edition came out, and sold it to a friend so I could snag that one. Granted, my Halo Xbox360 sounds like a jet taking off when I'm playing a game... whereas my original launch system was incredibly quiet. Long as my system stays alive long enough for me to play through Lost Odyssey, I will be happy.
When M$ sent you a new one, did it have hdmi? I would assume that just by downloading the XBLA games again, that will lock them to the new system, right? There's nothing special I need to do? Anyway, that is a pretty quick turnaround time. I know they are scheduled to receive my system on Wednesday so maybe I would receive it around the 20th. That would be nice.
Much to my dismay there was no HDMI. Yeah go to your download history under account info under your profile and you'll be able to play your XBLA games without having to be on line.
Welcome to the long list of those with dead units - you can officially count yourself as one of the majority. :katamari:
Lies! Lies! I've had two myself and this one isn't great I have now the dvd drive sometimes gets stuck
Well the newer 360s don't seem to die though. I understand the 360 is killing in the afterlife as it's the most bought console.
My 2nd unit made in August doesn't get near as hot as my 1st unit. Though for practicality I keep my 360 upright so it stays cool now.
My 360 was a launch unit, and it died the first week of December. Got sent to Texas, where they repaired the unit primarily rather than sending a replacement. I'm not taking any chances with the returned unit, so I've got some fans oriented strategically to route heat away. I was actually quite surprised at the quick turnaround time. On the other hand, there were about six or seven new Xbox games launched during that time that I passed up simply because I didn't have the console in hand. Launch windows for games are short enough that I'm not incredibly motivated to go back and revisit what I missed out on. RROD events are not good for game sales.
Got mine back in week, but then I'm Toronto. Unit I got back claims it was made a month before the unit I sent in. It runs a lot quieter though. Not too sure on just redownloading your games, some work some don't.
