Sorry to hear it took so long for you. Just for kicks, I'll keep those who are curious informed. Its currently, at least the UPS status shows, in Dallas, TX, roughly 8 hours away from the repair facility in Mcallen. One weird thing to note is that on the XBox Support page where you login to see your XBox repair status and registered devices, it shows no registered devices for me. I might have to give M$ a call in a few days after I know for sure that they are in possession of my console.
That happened to my both times...they got it just fine (1st time sent via UPS, 2nd time by FedEx; FedEx is nice in that you actually get to see the signature of the recipient).
All that matters is that the new serial # is registered, so all you have to give them is that new #. Enjoy another 3 years of free RRoD-related warranty from the date they send it out back to you (I think...).
Oh okay. Well, all in all I guess its not that bad. I'm glad my 360 went out when it did though. Had it been 10 more months, I would have been S.O.L. since my 3 year warranty would have been up. Funny though, reason I'm sure it didn't happen sooner is I wasn't really playing it all that much. It wasn't until lately I'd been playing more games; All-Pro, BioShock, Perfect Dark Zero, Halo 3, Forza 2. I forget who it was that said they are sitll on a launch unit. I think their assumption was correct that it's probably b/c they haven't played it all that much. Would be nice if the warranty is extended another 3 years, then I wouldn't have to worry. I just hope it is repaired for good and it'll last for a considerable lenght of time. I've got older consoles that I would have never thought about them going out or breaking down. I guess they don't make things like they used to. About the only company I know of, from experience that still makes products that last is Nintendo.
MS fucks people over so bad, I'm surprised people stick with it so long. I had 3 die, they sent me a replacement from early 2006. It pissed me off more, so I sold everything and got a ps3. Now it turns out that the dipshit at customer support never canceled my xbox live, even though I got an email, confirmation reference number and everything. Had to deal with a phone call with some guy from a loud ass call center in india, and still didn't get a refund. I'd rather let them keep my money they stole rather than continue to get fisted in the ass by MS. I seriously am shocked at how horrible they run things.
Goes to show you how sometimes the image of a company is varied for different people and the customer service experience is not consistent across the board. Sorry to hear how things had gone with your experiences with Microsoft. However, I've always been satisfied with the quality of service I've received. On the other hand, I can't say the same about Sony. In my opinion, even having heard people's bad experiences with M$, it still doesn't compare to Sony's. So, I don't know. To me, its kind of the lesser of two evils.
I only had to call twice about my 360. the First time the DAY I GOT IT because it red ringed out of the box. That got resolved. Then again in July it red ringed and I was on the for for 3 HOURS trying to talk to a human being. at least they have good music.
