    That't can't be true, since they've made their most recent crop of games region free precisely because western gamers wouldn't be able to play them otherwise (as well as to prove to western publishers that there is a market for them).

    I was under the impression it was because Sony would insist on old-style shumps being digital-only, whereas Microsoft apparently have a relatively liberal policy in Japan.

    Those are logical assumptions, but aren't necessarily true. Microsoft are also strict, but in the other way. They denied 5pb's request to make DOJ:BL & Ketsui XBLA titles. They insisted on package.

    Cave's philosophy on region free is a bit weird. I think the stuff they see as marketable in the west will be region locked, in hopes of picking up a foreign publisher. For example, Akai Katana (end of May) has been announced as region locked. MMP/PS are not very marketable, so region free makes sense.

    Their highest selling home title thus far has been Death Smiles which was region locked, btw.
