Those 2 that were on ebay were actually mine at one time. I had 7 of 'em. I paid $4k for them. Sold off those 2 for $1500 and then sold parts and such on the others for another $3500. Came out ahead $1k and had 3 pods left including the SU2000E Proto. :) Not a bad days work. Interestingly, I think the guns could work, I have the wrong connector on the end. They're exactly like the SU2000 guns on the inside, not much to them.... That's cool you have the original brochure, that's something! I have some nifty signs that they had at the arcade warning people with heart problems and such. Pretty funny stuff....

I don't have a Panther. That Panther really snuck under the radar on ebay. Went for a song. I saw it after the fact....UGH! Would have loved to add that to my collection, but C'est la vie!

I was watching the Panther all through the auction (the one in Holland, right? Guy also had an Alpine). I even mentioned it on atariage... but most people just ignored me, and those that didn't dismissed it as a fake.

$1500? Hmm, I doubt that was them, then! These started at like $1, we're talking 2 pods ONLY - no electronics afaik! They went for $50 the pair, I think!!

We had a discussion on here as to their use in their current state. I came up with some photo manipulations, alas they have probably been lost now.

Man...Atari stuff is so much fun. The fact that Atari was destroyed was a shame, yet makes so much cool stuff available collectors...

...Cool stuff like those Atari Business cards, The Jack Tramiel Business Card, and the Atari Security Badge. Weird stuff like that is my favorite.

I've looked through your site a ton of times, JaySmith, and now I get to tell you that it's awesome.

Oh, must be different ones. I know the guy that bought mine had them up on ebay some time back. Not sure if they sold or not though.

Thanks Blur2040! It's always nice to hear when folks enjoy your "stuff". I like the oddity stuff as well. I do have some pretty weird things, many of which aren't up there yet. I have a Jaguar CD Chocolate that was given away to Atari employees when the CD player hit the market. The Chocolate has survived 2 moves, but in the last one it was so hot that it turned a white color. Not sure if I have a pic of this on my site or not, but I also have the Passport for Shirazi Shivji (father of the ST).

I just did a major update to my site. Since the site has gotten rather large, here are the update highlights:

Added Jaguar 2 to Hardware Zone
Added items in the Promo, Misc, Development and Networking sections of the Hardware Zone
Added items to the Collector Corner
Added a new menu option for my "Game Room" (great for this area) - has pics of my Katana Dev systems...
Updated the beta registry (I finally landed an early Eprom of AvP for my collection that I've been trying to pry out of Goatstore Dan for years....Thanks Dan!)
    Updated the AvP section

Did you get your Mirage from an Atari source? I have a Sophia Saturn, which came from Atari. It had a copy of Area 51 in the drive. Would be interesting to know if this was supposed to be with that! Is there anything on the drive?

Also, I'd love to track down the original E7000 ICE unit that should have been with my system. They got seperated somewhere along the way, and the person I bought it off (an atari collector) never replied to my e-mails. It is obvious it had one, as the second CPU is missing, as is the PGA adapter, unfortunately!

Nope. Mine came from a guy in Paris, he bought it from a dev company that was closing out. It only had the Saturn tools on it (bummer for me). I need the Jaggy tools for it, I haven't tried the emulation tools I have with it yet, but am pretty sure they're not going to work, no reason to think they will anyways.

Oooh, Area 51 on the drive! Nice! I would think you should be able to track down an E7000 unit. Wasn't that Hitachi that made it???? I can guess where you bought this from based on what you said.... ;) Safestuff by chance?

Hmm, sounds about right! Was someone, I think in cali, who only cared about the Atari stuff. I think he had some Atari arcade stuff, too.

I have an E7000, yup Hitachi, but I don't have the PGA adapter. This was supposed to come with the Sophia, NOT the E7000! Mine was missing... i.e. left on the Hitachi POD! My only hope is to find a Saturn E7000... and the one I knew of the guy sold without telling me, despite knowing I wanted it! Then, I contacted the seller, who didn't need the PGA adapter... but the thing got lost in the post!

Aww, Saturn tools but no code? That sucks! I'll see if I can locate the Atari tools.. I'm doubtful, though!

Yeah, same guy. I've dealt with him several times in the past. He bought out the remaining Atari Games division. The Area 51 was a dead giveaway. That sucks, tough to be missing a part to get something cool working.... Nothing worse that having something rare and not being able to use it. If I hear of one you'll be the first I notify. :) Thanks for checking on the Atari tools, it is appreciated. It's just a nice paperweight in my colleciton at this point....

    OK, here goes......

The Mirage is a virtual CD drive. It was used to emulate a CD drive, because burning CDs all the time was expensive back then!

It connected to a PC/SGI machine, and a target device (Saturn or Jag).

Therefore, the software needed would be the software on the PC/Indy to communicate with the machine.

To change the machine from Saturn mode to Jaguar mode, you would need to remove the Personality Module, and replace it with a Jaguar Personality Module.... basically a Jag interface, probably custom programmed. Also, VERY importantly, you HAVE to make sure your firmware version matches that of your Personality Module, or you will likely kill the Mirage!

Not the news you wanted to hear, I imagine! Sorry!

Incidentally, I don't think he even bothered to leave me feedback, despite my requesting it after a month!!

    Oh crap,

Personality module? Custom programmed? Damn, good luck running one of those down. I'll get in contact with Cross and see if by chance they have any left, longshot I know, but what are you going to do????

    Thanks for the info Retro!

    OK, well....

    1. Cross closed like 5 years ago

    2. Some of their stuff (namely the software they created, forget the name) was taken over by another company

    3. If you contact that company, they'll say sorry, we have little information on that, and what we do have we can't give you - NDA with Sega still in effect.

    *EDIT*

Imagination Technologies bought out Cross Products in 2001 for their Codescape tools.

Incidentally, info gleaned from the Mirage manual, available on Antime's site.

I know because I contacted them myself sometime after the acquisition ;) They were polite, but apologised that they could not help.

    Always worth a try, though!

Have you noticed how this thread seems to have turned into a game of ping pong between us? ;)

Perhaps you should learn more about Atari...So many great 2600 games...and the awesome 8 bit computers...and Lynx is just absolutely amazing.

Jay, your site is a joy every time I read it. Reading about Fight for Life beta almost makes me want to have a Jaguar. Almost...

Someday I'll convert you Blur!

    Thanks man.

@anoesis - Yes, the VR headsets were WAY ahead of their time. Only one Jaguar game supports them (Missile Command 3-D, previous named Missile Command VR), but boy is it fun using them, gets you a little dizzy after long play though...
