Quote from my friend.. I went to an apple interview last night, only interview I've ever been too where I felt like a useless sack of crap afterwards The way they worded things.. They only wanted the best people understandably but they're body language regarding people who weren't good enough was like they where scum But one thing I can say is, the fact one of the staff members was giggling whilst a group was doing a role play presentation (it was a group interview) made me feel like this is a bad company they also kept saying they didn't want people with technical knowledge mostly they wanted good looking people but it was worded in a way in order not to get sued -- Friend
Good looking people without any knowledge ? At least, they are in line with most Apple users.... Not that all Apple users are shit (not at all), but a big part of them just buy Apple products in order to "look" better and trendy. Still sad to see this kind of behavior from interviewers but from a commercial view, Kim Kardashian can be a better seller than Stephen Hawking, sadly.
Remember - These people are labeled with the term "genius" within the store. This company is requesting for people who don't know much about technology, putting them in a tech store, and giving them the label of "Genius" If somehow Apple fanboys don't see what's wrong there, no one can save them.
What was the interview for that they value looks over knowledge, store slaves? If so, why the eff do you have those sign an NDA? I was contacted for a dev position once, but the way the message was worded was waaaay to "dragnet"ty, if you know what I mean. Also, location location location... Sure their office is impressive to simple minded people, but if working there one'd have had to choose between daily commute by train, driving (and parking!) into the city center, or the ridiculously expensive housing in Munich, so I picked option four and ignored them.
Was this an interview to work at the company, or just to work as a floor salesman at one of their stores? I'm confused.
^ This. It has to be for some Apple store. If it was for a real development position in Apple, then you definitely want Technical skills. In fact, I'm sure the whole interview process would be way more formal and professional. Interviews at 'consumer' level job positions are always a toss up, since you get joe-nobody interviewing you.
Hopefully in a store. Their future ain't bright if they're looking for good-looking programmers and engineers with no technical knowledge...
Yeah retail, sorry should have mentioned that. For a company that supposedly wants the best, their staff turnover is crazy
But if you're literally at the bottom why would you need tech skills anyway? Apple would educate you on their range of products and how to use and troubleshoot them of course. I think of this like you're going to be the cashier at McDonalds. You actually don't need to know anything to get the job. Same thing here. Just be nice, do what people want, get paid, go home. You're not going for an executive position at the McDonalds Corporation just as you're not going for an engineering position at Apple. You're just a bottom feeder guppie and that's all they need. Nice people to hock products while the higher ups take care of the actual serious work.
No they said (both in person and their little video) that they don't want technicians doing servicing out the back
Yeah our consumer law has something to do with it I think (all handsets have to have 2 years warranty) Another thing my friend mentioned, he's 99% certain that Apple employees aren't allowed to be seen outside the store during shifts. They have hidden toilets in their stores (it may seem the staff are going out the back to do business but really they are doing their business haha) Ive personally never seen an apple employee eating lunch at a food court
Hmm maybe they do, I probably don't pay enough attention. One other thing about their store design. Microsoft looks almost the same but instead of say round stools they have square ones.. Like on that show the Simpsons haha
