I just don't like it how now a lot of kids and even teens just want the newest thing out just to say they have it. They never really appreciate it most of the time either. =(

To some degree, it was always that way. Kids are kids, and even adults somtimes covet the latest shiny toy just to have it for purposes of prestige or whatever.
When I was younger, I wanted the latest Transformer figure. Not because it was particularly useful, but because I found it fascinating and awesome just to have.

I was also quite content with my NES...just needed a new game or two every now and then, so I never developed that "gotta own all the consoles" mentality that seems to be associated with most "hardcore" gamers these days.

Yeah, I guess now it just bugs me how kids are talking about like ipods and 600$-400$ game systems and such without really having reasons to have them other then there popular. Like when I wanted game systems it was because it dropped in price or/and had games I wanted to play badly. I would want an mp3 player like an ipod because i have hundreds of CDs, and it seems a lot of teens want those then store like 100 songs on it, you know.

It seems I ain't getting shit either. Not just gifts, but not even getting paid.

I got canned from one of my jobs (stupid bitch manager hates that I can speak the language the school teaches, and use a computer, saw me as a threat to her position, fired me over bogus "budget" issues, then gave herself a raise).
I've never had a job that gives a Christmas bonus either way, but maybe the new one will. I currently teach at a state university (the one job I still have...), so it should be law that I'll get a Christmas Bonus, but with the conservatives in power in my country, public education is not a priority, as it's not "business". If I get like 30 dollars it'll be awesome, though. Still, they don't pay vacations. Hey, politicians need to pay their luxury cars and expenses somehow... so fuck the teachers, right?

I fucking hate christmas anyway, and I haven't gotten any money or decent gifts, nor had the cash to give good ones since like 1998, so fuck it. The one year I had cash and gave everybody awesome gifts, nobody gave a crap anyway.

The gift I want for Christmas?
I hope the president and ex president of Mexico both have coronaries, broken backs, or at least really bad, 15 day headaches, and explosive diarrhea.
And I hope my former manager REALLY needs someone to fix the office computer while on vacation, and her job depends on it. Stupid illiterate bitch.

very poetic language . Have you considered leaving Mexico to find a better life and pay elsewhere?

Might be leaving to teach Spanish in Kyoto once I'm done with the Master's degree. Let's see if my contact can come through with it. 2006, 2007, and part of 2008, though, I'm bound to stay in Mexico.

    Yeah, but just a bit.

I actually went and took JLPT 2Kyuu (That's Level 2) in Mexico City last week... though all signs point to taking it again next year. It was super-hard (though not as terrible as the 2004 version, from what I saw with the practice version of it) and I was starving. I did get a ride back to Guadalajara with a friend's parents, though, so the trip was awesome and almost free.

Jeez, it looks like we need to send this guy a copy of "Scrooged" with Bill Murray pretty quickly!

Well said.. but I believe this is something that gets lost in todays world. I remember growing up the most import thing to me on Christmas wasn't presents but was having christmas at my grandparents with all the family and in the end, I believe, it is the one memory out of everything that sticks with you.

    Poor Xerdo,

I know as a teacher, having the conservatives in power totally screws you, but I always hear PRI is horribly corrupt. (Then again, I only read about them in a historical sense) Are they that much better?

(Sorry, I study Spanish and have a slight interest in Mexican politics. )

On a side note, this thread does a great job of showing the age demographics on this board. Half have kids hinting for a gift, and half are hinting for a gift from their parents.
