That would be £50, and the shop would be Argos, he isn't bullshitting. They do crazy offers all the time, I bought a GBA-SP when they were still £80 everywhere else for £40 in the shop as they were discontinuing that colour. They also did a very good deal on the silver Gamecube, £40 I seem to remember.
No, Shadowlayer told us a while back that he knew of lots of places selling the original XBox for 50 USD.
I thought I was clear back then: it was ONE guy in ebay. Since I'm not into that (cuz i dont have an xbox) I supposed it was the normal price...
comes to show that you better be sure about your arguments before you post something eh?lol , Taucias is the all-seeing eye of detail
The trouble with my local area is that EBgames/Gamestop have the monopoly here. In the past few years they have bought out all the independent stores and second hand prices have risen as a result. PS2 Greatest Hits titles used are $18! Games without boxes or manuals are the same price as ones with them. GBA loose carts sell for $15-30 (depending on the title) It's just not worth it. DOWN WITH GAMESTOP!
Come back to me when you see a loose GB Tetris cart going for £12. Gamestation, Newcastle-Under-Lyme. Seriously.
I always thought Gamestation to be good for selection and price, at least in the earlier days. They check their prices with eBay now, I'm guessing. Still, that is a crazy price indeed!
They aren't too bad for a British retailer, but that really isn't saying anything at all. Their PS2 games can be quite reasonable (they often bundle shooters and odd Japense games in the "4 for £20" offers), but for some reason the Gamecube section is pretty much all £20+, which is absurd, and GBA stuff is still way over the top. All retro stuff costs 2x(ebay price+shipping) as a general rule, about the closest I came to a bargain in the one near me was a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga, going for £50. If it hadn't been in tatters I'd have snapped it up, the box was truly ruined though.
I'm not trying to start anything, but I read just as many of Shadowlayers posts as anyone else. Sometimes he's wrong, sometimes he's right. Why is it necessary to rub it in and pick on him when you don't like his opinions or thoughts? Do as you will. I just don't find it necessary.
I'll bite the bullet and admit I am a Gamestation till monkey, and yes prices are quite high sometimes. The simple answer is, people buy the items at those prices without question. If some fans weren't willing to pay some pretty insane prices, the items would never be at those prices.
(@ shadowlayer - He raised this again after the moment was over, so please don't consider me to be raking over hot coals. I just have to reply to his comment) Picking on him? This isn't the playground here! The reason? He was adamant that they were everywhere for $50, then he posts in a new thread that he is trying to find one. In this case I thought it necessary, since it is obvious he was BSing us. However, he has since explained it was eBay he saw the $50 XBox on, so all was well. I would hope people would point out my inconsistencies too. I stated the reason I singled out his previous post - I want to get a used XBox and can't find them for less than about $80. Unforunately I haven't be able to find them and they're not available all over the place, as suggested. Isolated machines that are FUBAR perhaps, but not all over the place. Phew! ;-)
Just tried a retail PS3 for first time. Pretty funny that I still havn't tried a retail X360 yet.
No problem Taucias. For some reason lately I seem to be just a bit to sensitive about Assemblergames in general. Think I may just be working to much lately. I need a new project or something.
I'd think about getting a PS3 if they upscaled games to look less assy on my HDTV, but ps3 itself doesn't seem to have the best games right now, plus I just got a 360 not too long ago. Better price on the 20gb though!
