I had WiiConnect24 on for around a year and a half until I just recently softmodded it and turned it off. Funny how I did everything I shouldn't have been doing to it, even opened it up and attempted to solder a modchip in there (The pins were too small, and I blow at soldering, so I failed. Even left a few wires in there), and it still works perfectly. :110:
Mine has been on constantly since the 6th December 06 - yes days before the official release - and no problems at all
the heating effect is something I dislike about WiiConnect24. Also, it's surprising that you need to have it on if you want to use the weather and news channels, even when the console is on:S
How did you solder a modchip in when you had WiiConnect24 on? :110: I recommend disconnecting the power before opening it up, and definitely before soldering! ;-)
To all the launch unit owners who have been running it fine since launch - good for you. Nobody was saying it affected 100% of consoles, it's probably just the ones with shitty placement of heat conductive paste or whatever.
