HOLLY SHIT!! So I read all this stuff about Microsoft releasing WIndows 7 and abandoning Vista, I heard that this new version of WIndows is supposed to rock my socks, so I get it and install it. The install went smoothly, looked presentable and fairly normal, then I migrate my applications and games I play............ I try to play Sega Touring Car, a game from 1998 that runs like butter and requires the processing power of two stones being struck together to run. WIndows 7 was unable to launch it and something about zBuffer memory was unable to initialize.........????? I'm not an engineer, I just want to play this game!! Tried playing Street Fighter games that require no more than a Super Nintendo........... GLITCHES UPON GLITCHES AND CRASHES AND COLOR WARPING + SLOWDOWN!!! Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator kept giving me lame excuses on why it wanted to shut down and restart......... The WIndows run sluggish and have very awkward delays as well as LOOOOONG loading times trying to access simple things like the control Panel....... WIndows XP ran just fine, it did the job, it was able to run the crap I wanted off my machine in those few times I did feel like f'ing around, but this sorry pile of waste of drive is pathetic........... It gave my computer a 1.0 "Windows Experience" out of 7.9!!!!! My Machine is ALL INTEL XEON!! NO JOKE NO SMOKE AND MIRRORS, %100 64 BIT Server GRADE MULTI CORE SUPER COMPUTING JUGGERNAUT!! NO REASON WHY WINDOWS SHOULD RUN LESS THAN SPECTACULAR!!! Seriously........... WTF???
Thats UNFINISHED software for you. They are free Release Candidates for a reason. I'm skeptical anyways. Nothing but trouble with vista i expect no better with this one
And I get to sit pretty knowing soon I'll just have to pay $29.99 for Snow Leopard OS X. I'm still using XP on my dual boot on my iMac. No reason to upgrade to Vista or Windows 7. Seems like I'd lose the ability to play my X-wing vs Tie Fighter games. And that, that sir is a "hell no I'm not upgrading"
That's weird, since I moved to Win7 I can't even think about going back to Vista or XP. The only issues I have right now are hardware related (a dying motherboard and a failed video card going to warranty next week), but no lags and no glitches at all. The fact that you're running a server-like PC must not help in terms of compatibility at all, machines of this kind are not designed for games. BTW, the Windows experience index doesn't show an average of all test scores, it shows the lowest score obtained. I have an average of 5.0 in my PC and the 20GB IDE HDD I have for music lowered the score to 2.0. Don't take this score as something serious, it's basically made for people with new, standard machines that want to know if it can handle a game without going through specific system requirements. And one last thing, that you have to activate Windows doesn't mean you have to pay to test a pre-release version. You can easily get a serial number from Microsoft website joining to the beta testing (I'm not sure if you can still do it but otherwise you can put one of the many codes you can find on the web from people who abandoned the beta testing).
Windows 7 works fine on my Mac Pro (Quad 2.66 Xeons), could have been an error from downloading / burning, Ive had a hard time burning the RC.
When you click through on the WIE score, what section are you getting the 1.0 on? The WIE score isn't an average, it's the lowest score of the 5 or 6 things that are tested. Sega Touring Car is likely incompatible considering it's 11 years old now. Have you tried running it as admin or using compatibility mode? Probably still won't work, but worth a try. What Street Figher games? What errors from Illustrator/Photoshop, and what versions are you running?
Yeah, I installed Windows 7 on my Nehalem Mac Pro perfectly fine. I only did it so I could use XNA but everything seems to run ok. Bring on Snow Leopard, I really can't wait.
Works great on my PC. I've been using build 7057 which was a leak for months with no crashes and it is my main os.
I've been using the the RC for a few weeks and then then Beta 1 since it leaked. I've been enjoying my Windows 7 experience very much. Vista I rarely went a month or two before I'd give up on it's horrendous slowdowns and instability and then would reinstall XP. So far with 7 there hasn't been a moment where I've wanted to reinstall XP.
On my HP laptop vista stunk. When the hard drive crashed and the re-install disc did not work I moved over to windows 7 and I have been impressed. I still like XP on my PC but windows 7 works well on my laptop.
In this moment I'm posting from Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 1 while it gets updated to Alpha 2 which was released yesterday. Great distro, thought I had to modify lots of the visual section. I can't stand the default orange theme...
Sega Touring Car is an old gamne, no doubt poorly programmed for windows in the first place. You are also using a 64bit OS and trying to play a 32bit game..
Try playing an 11+ year old Mac compatible game on stock leopard.. Now complain about how Mac OS sucks because it doesn't do something it was never intended to.
Well, MGS PC version was ported by Microsoft, and doesn't work on a regular XP. OH: And they didn't even bothered to patch it somehow.
