I love the 5th generation of consoles, but one of the main reasons I mainly collect and play Saturn games is because a good N64 controller solution is a pain in the ass.

If you really have a problem with the standard N64 controller I have to pity you. Fully understandable why people hate the D-Pad on the Cube, XBox, 360, and Wii if you're into fighters but I can only imagine those of you who can't handle it properly must not have gotten the proper training.

Speaking of which one of my friends used to play the NES with the controller backwards - as in D-Pad on the right buttons on the left. He had no reference on how to properly hold it and that was how he did it for many years. Not sure what he was thinking.

its just that that the analog sticks wear out it keeps me from really enjoying the console to it's fullest extent. Replacement sticks dont have all the functionality of the originals from what i've seen, and fixing original sticks is difficult and i just dont have the time for it.

You can buy the PROPER replacement toggles now (ie not the Game Cube style). Lukie Games on ebay sells them, last time I looked.

Bit Off topic, but whoever came up with the Sega Master System arcade stick should be shot, that thing has the stick on the right, buttons on the left.

I got a Super Pad 64 and I love it. They are a bit hard to find but don't cost as much as the Hori Pads do. Now to fix my Everdrive 64...

I had a super pad when it came out and even at that time it was actually a nice alternative to use. Loved the turbo buttons and the analouge didn' ware out as easily.
