hi, i found a readme, which explains how to play n64 roms on the gamecube. http://www.ehow.com/how_12076172_convert-n64-gcm.html i want to try the first method, but i will burn the modified .gcm-iso instead of using a emulator. could this work? and how will the saving work? i tried mario kart 64 (the iso i´ve found in the net was already ready to burn), but there was the problem, that you can´t save the progress...
There are ready made discs that contain multiple games available out there, usually 4gb ones for the Wii. The one game I remember playing on a chipped Cube was Mario 64. It played quite well, (but I only played the first few levels) and as for saving, I used a regular Gamecube memory card. The first save took a while, (I thought it had locked up) but after that, saving was quicker.
ok, i hoped that there is a possibility to come around the saving problem... i´m a bit confused about mario 64. there the saving seems to work, so why shouldn´t it on other games? but i´m sure you know it better than me
It's because certain games were designed to save with various types of memory, obviously the emulator used to package the N64 roms was designed for the saving of that game. Therefore, if you tried a game that didn't use the same type of memory for saving, you're screwed.
I'd have to imagine the compatibility list of UltraHLE probably looks a lot like the compatibility list of these methods.
ah, ok. i found a list with the saving types: http://n64.icequake.net/mirror/slaanesh79/Games/Cart_Games3.htm super mario 64 uses eeprom. i will try another game with eeprom and see if it saves on the gamecube memory card...
The Compatibility of the official n64 emu from the Zelda Collectors discs is quite low - less than 15 games - because they only emulated enough for a few basic games (Zelda, Mario)
i´m sad to here this, i´ve thought i could complete my n64 collection on the gamecube. you don´t possess the compatibility list, do you?
Here's an incomplete compatibility list I put together a long time ago, the games with only one set of entries are tested with the OoT emu, not the MM one I think. I liked playing Puyo Puyo Sun 64 and Star Fox with it, they both run pretty well.
They worked to get Zelda working. Any other game that works is simply due to sharing similar hardware usage.
strange, i downloaded the ocarina of time master quest iso, opened it with the gc-tool, but i can´t find the "Zelda2p.n64".file... i also opened the prepared mario kart 64.gcm, but there are totally different files inside?! do i have the wrong Oot.iso?
It might have another name, I can't remember the name since I deleted them all to clear space, but it should be zelda<something>.<ext> and be either 32MB or 64MB, just use the same name as that file, and replace it.
this is the dvd-root: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/267/gctooloot.jpg/ i think it could be S_Zelda.tgc. it has a file size of 47mb.
.tgc files are a kind of .gcm file, some of them contain videos, one of them contains the emulator and ROM/s. I've attached a program that lets you convert them into .gcm files so you can open them up with GC-Tool etc. Once you've inserted the new rom into it you don't have to convert it back into a tgc and put that back into the original image, you can just run the new modified .gcm you created.
Oh the reason why is you've got the main image with ALL the stuff, like the demos, etc. you need to extract the zelda GCM and then open that one, which you can then boot directly without a need to have the selection menu!
