To answer the original question, RF cables are crap, but they shouldn't effect the size of the characters. It just looks like a sandstorm!

I think the second screenshot isn't from the N64 game, but from the arcade. The N64 game added 3d planes IIRC and may always be from a more distant perspective.

Yeah, composite is better. Can't remember the deal about component RGB, some N64s can, some can't. I'm sure someone around here will know, if you're interested.

No N64 outputs component. Some N64s however output RGB (French?) anyways, video has nothing to do whatsoever with Rowny's problem. In fact, Rowny doesn't have a problem, if the N64 was broken, likely it wouldn't work at all.

Solution: Don't play anything that resembles a fighting game on N64. (Ok...Mortal Kombat 4 wasn't bad)

What about Super Smash Brothers? That game is fantastic.

  14. NFG had an article about modding a N64 for RGB - apparently, the traces are on the board, but you need a bit of a signal amplifier, as it comes out pretty weak. While RF is supposedly the worst quality input, you're not going to get the snowstorm unless your connector is coming loose on your TV or if you've got about 7 RF adaptors daisy-chained and the N64 one at the back of the line. Blasphemous as it may seem, I run most of my consoles through RF and honestly can't see what the fuss is about. Composite and component (if your console supports it) are nice, but they aren't the cream-your-pants ultimate most people make them out to be.

But yeah, using RF will only affect your video quality, it's not going to make the character sizes different, change textures, or anything like that.

The video output has no effects on things like character sizes.

I don't have KI64 so I can't have a look for you but I remember the camera zomming out if the characters were far apart like in the screenshot and zooming in when the characters were nearer each other - at least thats how a lot of games work.

For the N64 AV cords will make a little differance to the sharpness of your picture. All the new consoles I run through SCART or S-Video and older consoles through AV or RF. Honestly with most 2d games RF is fine but AV will sharpen the picture a little - anything more is overkill. On Gamecube ect through if you have a good TV SCART or RGB does make a differance but nothing to cry over.

It was more of a joke than anything else; I used to have the same "daisy chain" of RF cables for around four systems to the back of my TV--damn convenient! Still, once you've seen the component/HD output of next gen systems, anything less looks like shit. *

*Only on a Hd-Ready/Built in Set though...they don't like the A/V reg cables it seems. :smt1069

Holy crap! How did I forget one of my favorite games?

The size of the characters in the game is just to do with the zooming in-out effects of the game.

I don't remember the game as crap as back in my boarding sckool days we had a lot of fun and blisters because of it, but then again that may have had something to do with the fact that it was pretty much all we had.

  19. Rakuga Kids kicks ass. didn't comeout in the U.S., but did see some sort of release in Europe as well as Japan. And if you mean anything at all that resembles a fighting game: Custom Robo, of course.

As for video quality, I find it highly variable from system to system. Some systems have very good RF output, while others just look like shit. The Genesis and SMS even look bad through composite, RGB is the only way to go with them. I wouldn't say going from RF to composite on the N64 is really worth the cost of the cable, though, the N64 has pretty good RF. The N64's s-video on the other hand does look especially good and is worth it if you play the system much. The Dreamcast's s-video is pretty shitty by comparison. Like I said: variable.
