Having had my Nokia N96 for a while all was well untill it started giving me random "Mass Memory corrupt" messages and really bad slowdown issues....the memory problem is usually fixed by turning the phone off and on but the slowdown is there all the time and tbh its got on my last nerve now.:dammit: So i need a replacement and was considering a iphone mainly cos i play games and listen to music alot on my phone and i like the user interface aswell, but before i spent £350 on one i wanted to hear about ppls experience with it and if there is any know faults, or if you guys know of a good phone i may have missed?
If you are going to be using their apps, specifically the games, then sure, the iPhone is great. If its just apps in general, the Android platform is just as good, and has a ton of different hardware configs, some of which are a lot better then the now-dated iPhone. The Pre is a choice as well, but thats different as well heh.
If you're into having a linux PC which also happens to be a phone and the best internet device at the moment, then look no further than the Nokia N900. I bought it and I m still excited every time I use it. It's that special =) check it out in a review or two before you make up your mind, it does require some degree of open-mindless if you're not used to touch screen phones. For me this has been my third touch screen phone since 2003. I had the Sony Ericsson P800 in 2003 and P990i in 2006. Stay clear of the N97, its technology is archaic compared to the N900 and often costs the same to purchase. PS: The N900 is a linux phone in a complete sense. You can run the whole thing on command line if you so choose. There's a lively dev community out there and tons of useful and free applications. Unlike the iphone, it doesn't need to be jailbroken to have your way with it. I like that about my phones.
I would possibly try and hold out until more details of the Google Nexus One get announced, as people are saying it's going to be hot.
Umm its not gonna be much better then any other android phone. Its made by HTC and it runs android even if Google make some special apps for it they will be hacked for other android phones.
I've had my 3G for just over a year now and I'm very happy with it. My only complaint is the shockingly pathetic 2mpix camera, although pictures are very good in the right conditions. It is a very good phone but you have to understand that everything is locked into iTunes and iPhoto: no bluetoothing content to your mates. It's not to everyone's liking but I don't have any friends anyway. Once you're used to it though it works really well. All my contacts and calendars sync with Mac Office, I have all my music on there and it's easy to organise pictures of the kids. I'm locked into a contract that expires in March although I never saw the 3GS as enough of an upgrade to bother with. The 4th gen iPhone will be released around June/July so I'll be holding out until then.
Perhaps it would benefit to specify what you use the phone for. Business or purely leisure. I love my iPhone and would recommend one to anybody but never as a business tool.
I have a iPhone 3G and I love it. Its a great device, some good games, ability to play music and videos whenever I want, and a decent browser (albeit it does lack a few items (flash, java). My only problem with it is the manufacturer: Apple. They made some silly design decisions that drive me up the wall (my biggest is file system access, whats so wrong with wanting to use it as a portable hard drive like you can with a iPod Classic/Nano?) and the fact that while I payed good money for my device, its still controlled by Apple and they think they can dictate how I can use it. I'm going to stop there before I start ranting on Apple. That all said while I love the iPhone I can't recommend it, to anyone.
First of all i want to say thanks for all the info guys. I did alot of digging for the N900,Google Phone..and numerous other touchscreen smartphones and although many looked interesting non looked like fun to use if you get my drift, but heres the dealbreaker can i use all my mp3's (around 6 gigs worth) on the iphone? or am i going to have to buy them again from itunes?
Just import your mp3s into iTunes. You'll then be able to select which playlists you want to sync with the iPhone.
I would buy an Adroid based handset myself. I own an iPhone and I feel they are overrated. Once the novelty of the apps store has run down, it's not that great. Nice, but just a 'phone IMO.
*Wonders if he can take that N96 off johnace hands...* On another note, I'm probably gonna upgrade soon ( my old phone died too ) and I'll be getting the HTC Pure ( HTC Topaz/HTC TD2 )... the only reason why I'm going to get it is because it has a Android port thats currently in progress and is doing well ( so far comparing to how long its been out to how much is already functional its so far coming along FAST ) If I could recommend you a phone ( like alot of people have suggested ) I'd say get a HTC one, it's a helluva more phone for the price imo...
