You copy the cd/dvd, that's all.
    You still need the dongle.

Looks exactly like a PS2 memory card and it slots into the memory card port on the motherboard, however it is totally different. For example, try plugging a dongle into a PS2 and you'll kill it.

It's necessary and as far as I know there is nothing you can currently do about it.

What you might find is that someone has a spare dongle lying around, so it might be an idea to start asking around on specialist arcade forums.

You won't kill it, the PS2 just can't read it.

I read somewhere that interchanging PS2 memory cards for the System XXX cards kills the hardware. In fact I've read it more than once. I take it, this is a myth then? Having been warned, I never tried it because frankly I didn't want to screw the hardware.

Seesh! Never trust ANYTHING you read on the Internet, including me lol

The Naomi 1 uses Cart & GDrom. The Carts don't need anything other than the correct BIOS. GDrom requires a security IC, like a dongle in a way.

However, I think there was a thread here a while ago posted by Serantes about Naomi you might want to read. Check through the arcade threads or just do a search on all the threads he has posted and it will become clear ;-)

Easy answer is no. Harder answer is a maybe but it wont be worth it, as you arent going to find dumps of either the dongle for the system 246 or naomi games. Yes, the security method has been hacked for the Naomi, but its not something thats passed around, and it certainly isnt cost effective to buy the game, dump it, and burn it, just to save a few dollars. And even then, who knows if a GD-r or CD-r is even possible to be read on the Naomi, so I doubt it.

Just to be clear, I certainly wouldn't encourage it, just in case anyone thinks I am condoning the practice.

Well I tried, in fact I tried more than once and my dongles are still working.
What you probably read (and what I read too), is that someone tried to dump a system 246 dongle and he only succeeded in killing it...

No - those CPS3 carts having a suicide battery is a real pain, but they can be changed.

yeah I found a website explaining how. I wonder if anyone's offered a phoenix for cps3 yet. I don't care if it makes the system less original, phoenix mod is sex in a can
