as far as geek and computer inspired movies go, antitrust is pretty good, a little loose on facts and possibilitys with computers but otherwise its on par with wargames (another classic). :smt045

but hey, I doubt bill will be touched for anything, he reminds me of mr burns off the simpsons, if anything looks like its going pear shaped he throws a few (billion) dollars to his sharks...err...lawyers....

I'm so sick of this. It's popping up everywhere.

How do you know MS doesn't have a licence for Sound Forge? It doesn't matter what they typed in at the time (they may have not had it to hand/lost it/couldn't be bother typing it in etc.) as long as they have purchased a licence.

They may have outsourced for the windows sounds - in which case it's nothing to do with MS.

Even if they never had a licence - you think Sony will miss $399.96?

I hate how everyone goes after MS. It's getting old. Depsite what many of "teh hardcore" will say, MS does make good products, believe it or not.

I think the fact that these people are software crackers isn't going to help their cause either.

So let met this straight. Microsoft used a cracked version of Sony's software in XP? Or just a few .wav files that were made using a cracked program? If it's the former then maybe Sony can recoup some the $82,000,000 that they have to pay to Immersion for their patent infringement. :smt043

my personnal recomandation: avoid every software for pc made by microsoft, if general people would know more about linux and how incredibly bad microsoft do things in every way, windows shouldn't exist.... how can you pay 300$ for a buggy, butched, hackers , pirate , adware and spyware favorites' windows made by microsoft....when you can download a free copy of linux instead? that doesn't sound right , but its our reality.

  12. Einbebop and Funkstar, if you two would have read the article instead of just taking it to be another round of MS bashing, you would see here the the issue is not MS using other audio tools, but the fact that the audio files generated by the tools bear the signature, when looked at in a hex editor, of a CRACKED/WAREZ/BAD/ILLEGAL program. If Microsoft did indeed use - either knowingly/intentionally or not - cracked software, then just like any other company, they could be in a heap of trouble. No Microsoft bashing intended or implied, however as the maker of the world's number one operating system, they could be in a heap of doo doo if this turns out to be true.

I did read the damned article. It has no bearing on what its for; they will go after MS because they are MS. 9 "pirated" music files? Who cares!?! Look at it practically.

I don't know about you guys, but Microsoft Windows XP works just fine, and its compatible with almost everything on the planet. If you want to be able to run your 2 programs on Linux, be my guest.

Apparently Midway or Namco - or maybe Nintendo? don't remember - used pirated ROMS in one of their classic compilations for home consoles.

I think it's more humorous than anything else.

  15. Practically, they are 9 audio files generated by illegal software and packaged as part of the worlds most-used operating system, which generates billions in annual revenue for its company; that's really REALLY the problem, not that it's Microsoft behind it. If you're familiar with the computing world, the SCO Group has been going after various Linux distro developers and users for some time due to a similar issue.

MS is funding some of their legal teams to keep it under control.

    ...........

ah come on, lets not turn this into a flame war.....the low down fact is we all have some form of microsoft software on our computers, but alot of the time its not out of choice, its becasue its the only thing avilible......

Ive tried linux (mandrake distro 9.1) and I cant get used to it so went back to the only other alternative, XP.....not becasue I think the programs great and runs everything I want it to, but becasue there's nothing else...

It may seem like im bashing MS, and hell, yes I am, but until someone has the finacial backing equlivent to ole bills then we arnt going to see a major shake up in the OS world.......

but the point is, its a funny article, someones dropped a obollock somewhere, either forgetting to include license details in the code or ripping the code from a source with out permission.....either way, its funny...

    peace people

  19. That was indeed the original point, and I'm still wondering how it came across as "OMG!!! MIcro$oft suxx0rz agin!!!1111 lolololzjamontoast!!"...
