If it was an intergral piece or even a program, hell, parts of code, but music files? C'mon. Illegal yes, but it's more likely MS screwed up than anything else. Go after the dickholes who unleash viruses, not MS.

I'm not in MS's back pocket, but you've gotta look at the practicality of the situation. :smt045

Still, in the end, I doubt they'll pay much, if anything. Afterall, they are MS, the biggest corporation in the world. :smt043

As far as I can tell this cracker team has no legal recourse to claim thier intellecutal property was stolen. They cracked a Sony product, which somehow got around to Microsoft who used it in XP.

You do not own the rights to a cracked piece of software. It's illegal to even crack software in most cases. If anything Sony has legal ground to ask for compsensation, although I doubt to the tune of eighty two million. But still, thier software was used without thier permission.

I suppose Bill could just buy them off with a few million. But these crackers have thier heads up thier asses if they think for a second they "own" those 9 .wav files.

Of course the team/individual who did the cracking aren't going to sue Microsoft. Sony own the ip to Soundforge, so it's Sony who's been screwed out of licensing fees here, and I do expect they'll do something about it - they stand to get quite a bit of money should they take this to the courts (or settle it outside). That's the "practical" situation right here - why would Sony not sue Microsoft, when there's a fair wad of cash on the line?

Well does anyone know if MS dont actually own a license to the software?!

As far as i know/remember as long as you have a license it doesnt matter what the installation is? if its cracked/copied or whatever as long as you have the license then your ok?

Anyways at the end of the day cahaz if linux is so good why do you use windows?

Why do people complain so much about the only OS thats decent for home use? Why dont you all just move to another OS? why dont you go fund the developers with donations?!

Why dont you go and complain to the linux comunity why the fuck they have like 200 distros instead of making one unified decent OS that can actually be used by everyone at home?!

Because Linux runs about 3 programs, maybe 2.5.

Macs are the same problem; they have all the graphics design software, but if you want to do something else, forget it.

Quite on the contrary, after installing a 7-disk SuSe distro I never needed to download a new program :smt023

And Paulo, the "200" distros are there for diversity, it is actually a good thing to be able to find something that suits your need. I do agree though that the actual pro's and cons of distros are obscured from most people.

Paulo: because Linux is open source and the whole story is funny.

and think this what if the sourcecode to windows98SE became

open source then we could make it compatible with the NTFS filesystem and still play the old Dos games :) instead of having an old laptop playing old dos games on that i have :)

antipasta: sometimes does people when you are a tourist they ask you if you know their cousin (like little jose or Mohammed or little Peter Jacobsen etc.)

    and afterall maybe
"Denmark is a little land and the people don´t understand" ;-) :smt042

but we are 5 million people and many many cities in the little kingdom so it is very difficult to know everybody although it is a small country

and there are also many islands :)
