I've been searching all over for 3 days and it seems most people just buy broken 3DOs to fix this issue. The post here: http://nfggames.com/forum2/index.php?topic=5105.0 shows the exact issue I have and they did buy new gears but were not the same size. Article is a few years old so I'm hope someone else has either found the gear or made new ones. Also I don't think it matters from what I've seen but I have a Japanese FZ-10.

If no one knows, I might try my luck with 3D printing one. My job has a one and I use Kinect at work a lot. The Kinect SDK has a app that will make a 3D model of what it sees so I figure that might be a way to be able to make one. Not sure this is the easiest way, just a thought I had. Thanks!

I've tried to find one for a while, you might even find my post on that forum or on sega16. Point is I never found it. I bought a few different gears and it never worked quite right. Honestly for the effort involved in even looking for one its better to sell it for a working one unless you can 3d print it. if you can send one my way too!

That that seems to be the conclusion. I know it isn't a super popular console but you think someone out have found a good solution or at least post about it. There just isn't a ton of posts about fixing it. I'm lucky where I work since I have the tools to do it, I might go ahead a get one 3D printed. I'd probably just post the model up for people to use so they can get it done themselves.

Two questions though, that maybe you know since you looked into it. What type of grease is on the gears, it doesn't seem to be the same that is on the rails. I used white lithium grease for the rails when I redid it. Second, do you know if the gear is glued on?

Couldn't you just take a good gear and make a mold out of it? Since it's small material shouldn't be expensive.

For the greese I couldn't tell you. I know there is a type of greese for gears though.

The gear isn't glued on though. The hole is just the right size to have a tight fit. Though in my opinion this is what attributes to the gear crackig being such a common issue.

Success! I gave the gear to the guy I work with and he remade the gear in no time just measuring. It worked pretty well, not perfect though. I had to loosen the screws that hold the motor down by 1/4 a turn. Not sure if this was because the teeth were too long or to thick. He did say he it was hitting the limit of how tiny the printer could go. The printer is a Makerbot, I think one of the first ones that came out. That said, it might be a little louder but I don't remember what it sounded like before. Everything played perfect though.

I have the STL file for everyone to use, once host somewhere, probably google drive, I'll make a new post in the section with the info.

That is awesome. I ended up having to buy a drive with bad laser but good gear to fix mine. I'd love to get ahold of that file. Even better, if you and your friend perfect it, I'll buy a stack of the, from you

If you upload the file here we can edit it a bit if needed and put up on Shapeways to get a better quality and finer detailed gear.

Sorry for the long delay. Been a interesting few months and I forgot about this. Thanks for the reminder.

Here is the link for the model for the gear: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_Otepo-8bJkX1RpWTZkT0hSOGlPc1NmX2ZfUGRlTXR5U3ZN/view?usp=sharing

As a reminder this was how it worked out for me.
I wish I was able to print off a few different versions to test to figure out why I had to loosen the motor a little. I don't have access to the printer because I don't work at the same place anymore. If I was to guess and based off what my old coworker was saying, the gear teeth were too thick. The ends were the same size as the smallest the MakerBot could print. That said, I think it was a first generation MakerBot so I think most do a lot better now so it might not be a issue. Any questions feel free to ask and I'll try my best to answer. Hope this helps someone out.

Did you use this with good results? I was able to get my gear working with super glue, but I know that won't last
