Found this odd Xbox at a yard sale today.

It looks modded and is massive, even for an original Xbox.

Notice the 3 buttons with corresponding LEDs.

Looking at the datecode, serial and manufacturing date it seems to be a crystal case limited edition.

I'm gonna go on a limb and say it's modded.
When you press the buttons, do they do anything?

It is an X-Tender, basically a device that lets you switch between multiple harddrives.

Basically pointless with a 2tb drive installed.

Didn't realise the xtender looked so terrible.

I'd sell to a collector (or keep, if you are a collector) and just use a 2tb drive if you need lots of space.

Xtender extender mod...? Don't know if it fires up yet. Gonna open it up and clean it out first. But if it runs, it'll be worth the 2$ I paid. :)

Cracked it open and found it has a AMD duo chip installed.

Anyone have any experience with this chip?

Specs, recommended bios, settings etc etc..?

Oh, almost forgot.. the chip has a jumper switch. It's current position is up, when reading the text on the chip.

No idea about the mod, but that's a crystal Xbox, which can be either a 1.4 or 1.6 revision. You need to identify which one it is because if it's a 1.4, you need to remove the clock capacitor before it destroys the motherboard.

Probably a DUOX2 chip. If I remember right that's a 1MB chip and the switch let's you choose between two 512k BIOS banks.

Ok, well it's a 1.6 since it has the Xcalibur chip.

Ok, yes I think it could be, but not willing to test the switch until I read up on it.

    Here's 2 pics from inside.
1 close up of the AMD chip.

The console runs, boots into xbmc. Can't find any info on the bios or anything.

Just need to find a good rich bios for it, proper way to install/upgrade and then I'll start converting it to sata. :)

    Any tips will be appreciated.

It's not an amd chip. Its a duo x2.

Amd is just the brand of the flash.

    Ah. Good to know.
So what bios(es) does it support?
    What are it's specs?
Any specifics that I should know about, or anything I should/shouldn't do/use with it?

After some googling I found that it seems my DUOX2 is set to bank 0, but my Xbox is a v1.6 so it should be set to bank 1...?

Don't know if it really matters, as it boots and runs fine, but since my goal is to make it as up to date as possible, I really don't want to do anything wrong.

Does anyone here know what steps to take in order to make it up to date, without busting the chip?

    V1.6 Xbox's require a 1.6 compatible BIOS - m8plus_16.bin or x2_5035_v16plus_512k.bin are your only choices.
